While I geared my explanation to our British members, I hopefully explained Stater Brothers to anyone outside of So Cal. It's the last independent So Cal regional supermarket (remember independent regional/local anything in the U.S.?
)
I had mentally autocorrected that to Statler Brothers and figured it was just a dig at the IndyCar demographic. Thanks for the clarification.
Too bad the Statlers didn't make it to Stagecoach, then we could tie-in Thermal Club, Stater Bros and Statler Bros.
They are in Orange County also. We had one just around the block when we lived in Anaheim.
Yep, for decades and decades they were only San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, very localized, then with some store switches, went into Orange, San Diego and part(s) of Los Angeles County, like the high desert area (where I am).
They do a great deli counter.
Or, at least they did last time I was there.
Stater Brothers prides itself on formally trained butchers. It's a nice deli, for a supermarket deli, but wouldn't rank above a stand alone deli, like what red stick is craving.
Ok, I think I've covered Stater Brothers as much as possible

Well, jp, I am exhaustive and that can be exhausting
Thing is, if I don't, someone will say "you left that out!", so I try to be proactive

I'm glad this Stater Bros. discussion happened. SoCal being what it is, sometimes you're stuck in traffic for an hour and a Stater Bros. billboard is the first and only sign that you've officially left LA.
Otherwise, how would you know?

Ugh! Tell me about it. I made the drive from Las Vegas last Fall. From the Nevada State Line (200 miles), it took 3 hours with one quick stop for a to-go coffee. I recently made the drive to Paso Robles (186 miles) in 2 and 1/2 hours with a couple of brief stops, and yet, to drive the 65 miles down into Los Angeles to see my dentist, it took 1 hour 45 minutes the last two times...and that was in non-rush times There's not much relief on the way back any longer either, what with 100,000 more people here than when I moved to the area.
Ok, obligatory "traffic is a nightmare" story taken care of

If GM are looking to take an Indycar driver for their new F1 team then Palou is the only candidate. He's easily the best driver in the series.

Yes, it's a no-brainer.
So probably won't happen.....

The drone footage looked good but the track level stuff was dire, it's extremely hard to get a reference point for where the cars are what direction they're heading towards. Is there a plan to actually green the place at some stage or will it always be a dustbowl?
Unless they move Thermal to another location it will always be in a sub tropical desert. That’s what a sub tropical desert looks like.

Are we sure that worked as even a Potemkin marina?

Liberty making a faux marina out of a stadium parking lot is somewhat different than Penske doing the same within a private residential club.
The desert is the desert.

What's the difference between one of these motorsports country clubs and another planned community around a golf course? The race track might be better for the environment by not consuming so much freshwater.

Golf course noise issues are largely limited to swearing?
Dunno, one too many at the 19th hole and golf buggy hooning becomes a thing.....

I should have written: "somewhat different than Penske trying to do the same within a private residential club."
As in, there are on-site residents who might object at the latter, compared to setting up one in a stadium parking lot.
Though it should be recalled that nearby residents complained of the Miami GP during its planning stages as well.

The golf course water is mostly recycled non potable water. IOW cleaned poop water. Not likely another permit would be issued for that much real grass at Thermal. They could use turf. It looks good, easy to maintain. It’s comfortable now with the pads and soft fake grass. Far cry from the Brillo pad that was Astroturf. It’s expensive though once all said and done. The good stuff is $4-5 bucks a sq ft plus padding and prep. We’ve got xeriscape and thought the dogs may dig it. Tried a small patch and they were “meh”.

Thank you, Jim. Now I know where to avoid when I next visit the Golden State.
