Once again I bring forward my qualifying averages for those of you that are interested in this kind of thing, my methodology is too use the fastest lap a driver achieves whether that be in Q1, Q2 or Q3, a driver may well out qualify his teammate but end up having achieved a slower lap so his teammate gets the benefit towards the average lap.

Laps are only used where drivers competed in the same qualifying sessions and only dry laps are used because wet laps are run in inconsistent conditions were much larger gaps in teammates are often seen and often an element of luck might be present as well.

It has to be seen that a driver has had a fair chance to set a competitive lap, free of mechanical issues, yellow flags etc, also a driver may simply not have set a competitive lap after running off the track or it could be a combination of all 3 things. Another thing I have to be sure of is that drivers are driving to their maximum ability and not just coasting through the qualifying sessions like we tend to see with the top teams until they reach Q3.

2025 (After 3 races)

01. Bearman 0.468s

02. Verstappen 0.465s

03. Alonso 0.37s (0.934s)

04. Gasly 0.36s (0.791s)

05. Russell 0.29s (0.237s)

06. Hadjar 0.131s

07. Leclerc 0.127s (0.311s)

08. Albon 0.124s (0.053s)

09. Hulkenberg 0.07s (0.052s)

10. Piastri 0.01s (-0.032s)

Bearman further ahead of Ocon than Verstappen is over Lawson and Tsunoda is a surprise for sure

At this point it's just one qualifying session so I'm not sure how representative it is, I like to start out after 3 sessions but Bearman had problems in his first 2 qualifying sessions.

A couple of minor corrections: Russell's advantage over Antonelli in qualifying today was 0.204s (not 0.213s), and Verstappen's margin over Tsunoda was 0.880s (not 0.805s). Also, Mike Krack said Aston set up the ride height wrong on Stroll's car and this probably accounts for some (not all) of his sizeable time deficit to Alonso, so I don't think it's fair to take the lap time differential at face value in this case.

You'd think the Williams drivers were miles apart listening to the popular narratives.

I think Tsunoda could have got within 0.3 of Verstappen today. He looked like he was driving within the car limits after FP3, finally went for a bit push after a banker lap in Q3 and lost it again

I used Tsunoda's faster time in Q2, I actually did use 0.204s for Antonelli just a typo on here, I will annul the result for Stroll.

Given that the season has what, 25 races now, wrong setups etc will surely balance out over the course of the season.

Fluctuations are very possible with 24 races. If it were 24.000 you'd have a point.

It seemed true in Japan as well, I suspect the average as it stands will probably not be the true average.

Why?
In q2 Yuki used 2 new sets vs Max 1

I use the fastest lap whether it's done in Q2 or Q3, what if he made a mistake in Q3 and went a second slower, do we ignore his ability to go faster.

Ah thanks. It’s not equal track and the rest but good enough
