Or just rejig the calendar every year so we have things like Silverstone in April and Melbourne in October etc and just naturally increase nature's odds.

I remember Silverstone in April 2000 - it didn't work very well!

Another gimmick to fix the problem? Yeah, no thanks.

Better fixing the cars (smaller, lighter, less aero etc).

I'm just imagining the race getting red flagged after the sprinklers go on for too long  :rotfl:

What about sandtraps and water barriers? For Sakhir they could remove the asphalt between T5 and T8 so cars needs to cross 500 meters driving only on gravel and avoiding ponds. Who's got the best offroad skills with F1 cars? That would spice up the show :rotfl:

Sainz would finish 1-2...

Does Sainz Sr have a super license? :p

Kimi and Kubica would be a strong team.

Serious suggestion: just ban blue flags and let lapped cars naturally bunch up the field. Suddenly, everyone will want rules that allow the cars to pass...

Non-serious suggestion: noikeee's idea from 14 (!) years ago remains undefeated for me...

Bring back a manual H-pattern gearbox. Then swap the reverse gear with a random one. Drivers only get to find out which one it is after they've started the race.

Non-serious suggestion: over a decade ago some joker suggested that they convert every car to an H-pattern gearbox, and in every driver's car, swap out a random gear in the box with reverse. I still laugh every time I think about it.

I can see one problem with your first suggestion. Nobody gets lapped anymore. The field is so close you only get lapped if you’ve had a problem.

I feel like there’s something to be said for making the driving more analogue, more old school. Automation and information take away from the pure sporting aspect of driving the car better than anyone else. The driver shouldn’t have lap time deltas, tyre temperatures and all that at his fingertips. Not saying they need to mandate fully manual gearboxes, but having a beep in his headset at the optimum gear change revs seems too much for me.

Or make tyres less grippy. No, but seriously, this thread is an example of the justified helplessness us fans are feeling at the inevitable boredom that F1 has fallen into. You see all sorts of proposals from going back to refueling, cheese tyres, mandating use of three compounds, free development of car and engine, etc. In truth, the only thing we as fans need to demand, is for the stakeholders to stay true to and enforce the spirit of the rules. If the idea and the rules are good, it’s no use if they can’t or won’t be enforced. The idea behind the 2022 rule change was sound, the execution and enforcement, very poor.

The goals of a prescriptive set of regulations to reduce dirty air and an engineering sport where designers are free to look for aerodynamic advantages are in tension. I think this cycle of having good ideas for rules undermined by increasingly disappointing execution is inevitable.

Fundamentally though the chances of a lot of overtaking happening at Suzuka were always slim. Lots of places to make up time but very few to make a pass stick. Bahrain will probably be fine because it always is.

Meh, they could have just policed the different aero add ons better. In fact, they were supposed to.
Is everyone in awe of just how technologically advanced and marvellous the umpteenth mini winglet that was added last weekend is? Or are people complaining how boring the racing was? What is stronger? At some point fans and engineers will have to make peace with the fact that if F1 continues to be centered around (or even somewhat about) technology, its days as a racing spectacle are numbered.

I would only support artificial rain if they wet 50% of the circuit, leaving the other 50% bone dry. Now, teams, choose your tyres.

Max wins and threads like this appear. It's magic.
But on topic, I don't think it is a good idea. Better let them race under real rain, like in Oz and Brazil last year  :cat:

Think of the children. The water, the noise - Why are we even racing at all?!

Btw - I like this thread, at least creates a debate on how ridiculous the current rules have been - the size of the cars is ludicrous.

That made for a fun Turkish Grand Prix back in 2021.

If we're looking for more environmentally friendly fake rain races, rather than putting sprinklers on the track they can put one in the cockpit of each car, pointed at the driver's face to stimulate spray from the car ahead (we can reduce the intensity for the lead car). To avoid water wastage, water is collected in the cockpit and then reused to spray the driver's face. Perhaps Ferrari were testing something like this on Leclerc's car in Australia?

That sorts out the visibility. For drivability, we can get Pirelli to make fake wet tyres that mimick wet weather handling. Not too different from what they do now and make it so everyone has to use one set of fake wets for a minimum number of laps during the race.

To mimick aquaplaning we can pick a corner to randomly disable steering inputs and braking at certain points. Some action to spice up the show like turn 1 at the Nürburgring in 2007...

rain falls from sky above us. enough said.

but then wet races, if it could be held hermetically devoid of any technical, any political, any commercial interests, can be a type of a rule.

but then in practice of motor racing, any rule that existed were the target of loop holes, so I can think of NO possibility that such events to have these pure excitement of rain races.

Therefore building calendar is one of the most crucial technology of the championship.

Reduce the wake up from the car in front and it will be fine.

The wake?  I don't think anyone was suggesting putting THAT much water onto the track!

I'm getting really sick of people trying to turn this sport into WWF.

its halfway there what with how americanized it has become, that wrestling guy intro at events i mean F1 cant be that far off from getting the playoff's like Nascar Liberty have enough reason to add it due to the amount of races now. V8 Supercars has the playoffs this year F1 will be next most likely   :stoned:  :stoned:
