If Narain Karthikeyan was driving at the back today, he would get Driver of the Day, judging by the current voting trends.  :p

Jackie Stewart should have won DOTD

edit:  you know I meant Stewart!

I did not look at what cars did undergo the density and hardness check before the race. I only looked at the skid wear checks after the race, because that is what the DQ's are about. But I could have been clearer about that.

And no, I don't think you can extrapolate like that. But you also can't be sure all were caught.

Apologies, you are right.

They didn't check skid wear after the race in Australia.

60 entries, 22 checks, 2 fails

95% confidence interval = 0.0909 ± 1.96 × 0.0492 = 0.0909 ± 0.0964

up to 11 entries (over the 3 races) could have failed the skid wear test

I can't reproduce your standard error, but it has been a while, so that is probably on me. I admit the upper limit is more than I expected, so that is a great argument for more checks. The lower limit is 0, so could still be all were caught.

All 4 GPs had skid checks. 5 to 8 cars were checked. 2 fails so far.

Is it safe to assume that we had 2 more cars having excessive wear in China and Bahrain each that escaped penalty?

Whats the FIA's reason for not routinely checking every skid every race?

It would take too much time, with current resources. The teams would get back the cars much later and that messes up the schedules.

Don't get me wrong, Bauer and his team work well, without issues or controversies.

Still, skid wear is a problem area with current reg cars. They do find issues, and I can only hope that they will increase the # of checks per race.

I cannot believe they can't somehow make an internal depth gauge.  Like a wear bar on car tires.  If you can see "this", then your plank is too thin.

Scrutineering and checking for legality after the race should be done at FIA's pace, the teams would just need to schedule their logistics accordingly - messing up teams schedules should never be am accepted reason for not ensuring the legality of the sport.

I suppose you could have a plank that’s manufactured to have a different colour laminate below the legality limit, to make it stand out, but I do t think that’s really the problem here.

The checks at scrutineering are extensive and time consuming anyway. The actual checking of the wear on the plank probably doesn’t take that long, but lifting the car, getting safe access to the plank, and doing that around all the other legality checks they’re doing, it what’s going to take a long time.

I’m also not sure about the exact nature of the checks, but I’d imagine they’d also need to check for legitimate damage to the plank, not caused from running the car too low.

The plank isn't even necessary with 'contoured floor' ground effect cars.  A minimum height for the 'tunnel' roof should suffice.

Lewis pulled a fast one on Ferrari, he's past his peak and not worth the money Ferrari paid. Good for him, though.

Has been 4 races jheeze.

Sainz hasn’t been stellar at all

When I was first getting into F1, aged 10, I used to play F1 '95 and F1 '97 on the PlayStation. Brundle had a line of commentary on '97 where he talks about teams being 'reported to the stewards'. Me being only 10 and misinterpreting the line - and being aware that there was a Stewart GP team - thought that Stewart had some kind of special power officiating F1.

I agree with this. It's part of the hash FIA made of these regs

Haha, the alternate universe where F1 is run by Jacobites.
