Subscribers to Vintage Motorsport were notified by parent RACER that the winter issue would be the last in a line going back 42 years. The notice said the 2 magazines would be combined, and that subscriptions would be honoured with issues of RACER. Content of the revised RACER is to include history and heritage of motorsports, the historic racing scene, collector cars and auctions.

I have never purchase a copy of RACER, judging it to be more focused on F1 and the current racing scene, but we shall see how the new issue evolves.

VM was well written and covered  N American historic racing very extensively as well as all International historic events.

I remain attracted to magazines, the ease of reading while relaxing, or carrying a copy to an extended office wait time, has real advantages. Fortunately I have retained most of my issues, and can continue to enjoy reading and researching events indefinitely. Sad to see the demise of VM, it was a great ride.

My last contribution to VM was some ten years ago. I did an article on French Maserati importer John Simone and his racing activities. I approved the final text, but once the article was published, it turned out the last names of Simone and his driver Andre Simon had been switched repeatedly, and the text did not make any sense anymore. So much for keeping the author involved. Editor Randy Riggs made a feeble effort to blame some computer program they used for the disaster. I collected my $1,800 check and never dealt with them again.

Sorry to see another title absorbed. When sold in Australian newsagents it was an expensive purchase even 20 odd years ago (with challenging exchange rates), So, a limited market here.

Am I correct in thinking 'VMS evolved from Steve Earl's 'Vintage Racer'?

Sad but not unexpected, as I have seen how magazines shrink in content slowly before expiring.

All went South a few years ago, when they 'retired' Randy. And incidentally, stopped taking my contributions. I won't say that was causal...

Ohh that's so sad!!! They could at least maintain it as an online magazine and allow the subscribers to access the old numbers in PDF.

As a subscriber for 20 years, I personally felt the magazine was in decline over the last 12-18 months so this discontinuation/merger is no surprise.  The progressive "retirement" of many quality writers and columnists has removed any luster the magazine once had, and the trend toward splashy page layouts over readable presentation was another annoyance.  The new magazine has plenty of pages, and I will wait to pass my final judgement once I see the ensuing issues, but once my carryover subscription period runs out I suspect that I will not renew.
