I don't think there is here a topic dedicate to this one-time GP driver. I was trying to ascribe him a nationality but seems to be a hard task. He appears either as an Italian or an American but was born in Istanbul with a German name (also I've seen Turkish nationality being linked with his name). It is not clear if he went first to Italy and then to the United States or vice-versa. During the war he was a captain serving in the CIA forebear, the OSS in Italy, and married an italian partisan fighter close to the Communist Party. It seems they lived in the early fifties in the US and left because of McCarthyism. So, for sure  a very adventurous life but with very little detail that I could find about him. Does anyone have more information?

Only one thing comes up for him on Ancestry - a travel record from New York to Rome on a Linee Aeree Italiane DC-6 on April 2nd 1952. US passport, born in Turkey. Home address: 190 Mallory Avenue, Jersey City NJ. Apparently travelling alone. Can't find him on the 1950 census either.

Thanks. It is possible his wife travel under her maiden name, Walkiria Terradura. Would that appear in Ancestry by chance?

All that turns up under that name is a reference to a 2001 Italian telephone directory, for a Walkiria Terradura who was apparently resident in Gubbio. Unfortunately, this is an index only - the directories themselves aren't online.

Seems to be one of those very localised surnames. There are other Terraduras in the same index, mostly in various other parts of Perugia or in Rome - and some others in the Var and Nice areas of France -  but there are a few others specifically listed as resident in Gubbio.

Four travel records for the surname only, but nothing relevant. Two emigrants to the USA in the early 20th century and a married couple to Brazil in 1963.

Most probably Alfonso's wife since she was born in Gubbio and died only in 2023, almost a a centenarian (and not many people in Italy are called Walkiria). But nothing more about Thiele. I was hoping someone like Alessandro Silva or Nanni Dietrich could/would shed some more info about Thiele's life...
