They just made it more complicated. Hope I am proven wrong.

Yep. The simplest and easiest way to go in terms of ease of officating would be to just require both drivers to leave room. Then it doesn't matter who's ahead at the apex. Leave room, and race on. Couldn't be simpler.

yeah, that is the weird part. if the car on the inside is defending, then it's no longer enough for them to be alongside the mirror, as the attacking driver on the outside is already ahead.

what determines who is the overtaking and who is the attacking? does a car have to FULLY be passed the other one to be considered now a new overtake? is the order of the previous corner? lap? year?

is there a link to that pass? I know they exchanged a few attempts that weekend.
What is a reasonable racing line?
I am not saying I disagree - just wanna be sure we talk about the same thing. is it this one at 2m24s? https://www.youtube....2pAF0hmE&t=144s

Exactly that pass yeah. I liked it, but it seems that if you need to take a reasonable racing line this won’t be allowed anymore??

Do you guys remember the great battles between top class drivers? Well we’re not getting those anymore. Be prepared for only overtakes on the inside.

Yes. They used to give each other racing room, and as such the battles became more than a race to the apex.

Sometimes they’d crash into each other, but when they respected each others’ right to racing room, great things happened.

I race in an online iRacing league with much better (live) stewarding than F1.

These are the overtaking rules we have to comply with. These can sometimes provide side-by-side racing for 5 to 8 corners long.

But I guess we don't want that.

‘We’ the drivers dont want that clearly as they voted unanimously for these new rules.

The drivers shouldn't be considered the ultimate arbiters of this.

Traditionally, the governing body makes the rules, not the participants.

Those are excellent rules and the SCCA and iRacing have a good thing going there. The latter parts about overlap and the vortices of danger should be required reading for any racing driver. Probably for any fan too.

The irony is that many current F1 drivers, including the dirtiest of them all, race in iRacing and should be familiar with these rules. They should be expected to abide by similar rules on the GP track too.
