There's a discussion on TNF right now about the 1975 Spanish Grand-Prix. The winner was Jochen Mass, his only Grand-Prix win.

Not sure he ever drove a Lancia in period, but he was such a motor racing devotee he was happy to give anything a lash in historics. Sad, sad news.

I never actually met Jochen, but he did smile at my video camera as I leant over the barriers during his demo of the Mercedes W196 at the Brooklands Centenary in 2007. Another legend gone.

R.I.P.
Although he had a long career, including F1, I'll always remember him for his early seventies drives, at the heyday of the European Touring Car Championship.

I got his autograph at the '86 Road Atlanta IMSA race.

I was a fan in the day because he drove Porsches and I liked German drivers.
I had the good fortune to see him race the Quattro Trans-Am car at Long Beach. I would have to dig for pictures.

I was fortunate enough to be introduced to him by Sir Jackie Stewart once at the Goodwood Revival, he was a very nice and generous man.

RIP, Herr Mass. You gave so many fans so much pleasure.

Very sorry to read this. His career was a bit before my time, but I really enjoyed his BTG interview previously and his insights into "training" the Mercerdes sports car team in the early nineties.
RIP
