Aston said themselves that Newey was working on the 26 car only.

While this may be true, it's also possible the engineers focused on the '25 car are benefiting just from having him in the room discussion his solutions to next year's technical challenges. Feels like it can't be a coincidence that the first updates since he started official work for the team have seemingly launched them up the grid.

Norris showing that when the pressure is on, he isn’t consistently there to make the difference. Piastri is only going to grow in confidence the more he starts on pole and wins races, Norris needs an almighty race tomorrow to finish ahead of him and I don’t see that happening.

Whoever gets out of T1 first is a big favorite to win.

Oscar vs Max again. I´m expecting fireworks.

Why not? This weekend they're more or less where they have been for the most of the last 4 years. It's the beginning of this year that was the outlier.

I must have been mistaken, But I thought the second run of Norris and Stroll were both track limits. I must have missaw.

It’s like DC in 1997 and then Mika in 98.

Except Mika was generally faster in 97 but had terrible luck.

I don't think I've ever seen a year on year difference between team mates like this. The turnaround from last year has been unbelievable and Piastri deserves all the credit in the world for delivering.

This implies the drivers were leaving ~0.5 seconds on the table or more at every prior race. Lance may do that from time to time but there's no chance Alonso just suddenly decided to show up. This is a much improved Aston. Maybe it's unique with the medium tires working for them and noone else but I'm here for it.

T1 should be interesting tomorrow - all Verstappen has to do is launch a kamikaze up the inside and Piastri will have to give him the corner…

So he has to do what Piastri did in Jeddah.

Nah, I'd win.

Piastri HAS to cover the inside and push Max out later.

Just has to read from the book that Max wrote himself.

No Mercy pushing out outside, P1astri.

Piastri was the better driver today and I fully expect him to finish ahead of Norris, but I don't think the gap between them is much to be fair. A tenth a lap maybe. So I think Norris could have a better race than Piastri tomorrow.

P loses 2 places at start N gains 2 places at start. P can't get past N all race even tho he is a tenth quicker. For instance.

Yeah it´s incredible. I don´t know if it´s tire managment or this car suiting him better. Or maybe him finding something else.

By giving rookies a few years to adjust, things like this can happen. As opposed to giving them 2 races or 6.

Villeneuve "He [Piastri] seems to perform under pressure. Take last year, Lando was the qualifier of the team. And now Lando collapses every time there's a bit of pressure"  :well:

Nice to see the Italians lining up 11th, 12th and 13th
(Leclerc - Hamilton - Antonelli)

I wonder why more team didn't try medium, particularly in Q3.

This is the reason i think. I think hes still 0.1-0.2 quicker than Piastri, he just crumbles under pressure. Piastri mental strength is something else, nothing fazes the guy.

It is a too often overlooked fact that Piastri is in fact a 7/29 finn.

Probably... "he claims Italian, Yugoslavian and Chinese heritage from his father's side as well as Scottish and Irish heritage from his mother's side."

Just caught up. Ouch: glad Tsunoda is okay after that one. I have nothing against Colapinto, but Alpine got exactly what they deserved today. The less said about Ferrari, the better. Nicely done by Piastri; Norris isn't going to give Piastri a fight for the title if he can't work out his execution across the weekend.

He’s easily the strongest on the grid mentally. Let’s see if he can maintain this as the season reaches its latter stages.

I’m trying to do the maths in this. 7/29 would require inbreeding surely?

That's the question, really. It's different being mentally strong when you are on top.

Piastri appears to have the right temperament to not only win races but championships also, Norris at the moment doesn't, but maybe he can learn from his team mate, he is still plenty young enough.

How distracting was the foam coming loose for Norris? That last lap he did was very scruffy.

Ferrari keep changing team principal but that doesn't matter when the engineers behind that are the same for years

I feel like they made two mistakes; first promoting Binotto to team principal, and second firing him. He was great at running the factory, they should have left him there, trackside not so much.

Proves the Peters-principle, that everybody is promoted to their level of incompetence.

Binotto is also sexier & more handsome than Fred, a trait that is important in Italy!

The Race had an interview with Newey where he said pretty much just that. He is focused on ‘26, but some of the changes he is making can affect the ‘25 car as well.

I cannot disagree at all...

The smaller teams don’t get the rub of the green, like I said earlier if that was any of the top 4 teams, I’m sure he’d have been through. Making the wrong decision despite your own live timing, graphics, light panels showing he got his lap before the red flag was in effect is shameful.

Apparently the red flag was set (ie button pressed) about 3 seconds before he crossed the line (hence why his lap was deleted), with a further couple of seconds before the light panels flashed red

It was a very fruity qualifying session.  Oscar is top banana, the Ferrari rotten tomatoes (are tomatoes fruit?).  Sour grapes for Haas.  Plum drives by Russell and the Williams pear.  Berry good effort by Hadjar.

That's if Max get's a good enough start, like Oscar did in Jeddah and got along side/his nose in front.
