I just bought this the other day. Normally I can pick up any racing game and starting get great results by now. Is it the car you choose because I can't seem to get better than 3rd or 4th in any of the stages of New Zealand. I kick arse on the Rally portion of Grand Turismo 2 but not this game. Any hints?

Joefan, you need to make sure you are on the right tyres and practice! It isn't an easy game to play and it is easy to lose time but practice is the only advice I can give you.

(and like Fastone said - turn right sometimes! ;) )

Swerve--

Is it worth buying as a sim (like I have any time to spare since our GPL league has formed)?

I assume your talking about the PSX version, not PC. I'm a little surprised that you say you've mastered GT2 rally courses but not Colin McRae, as I've found that generally I use the same driving style in both. All I can suggest is in the setup section, particularly in NZ choose wet mud tyres for the 1st stage, gearing for good acceleration, and I usually set the suspension to hard, as it suits my style. If you don't crash too much you'll be able to spend time setting up the car rather than repairing it. Generally you should be leading after the 1st few stages by around 5 secs and then its a matter of holding on to that advantage. The rally in Greece is pretty easy but the ice one (Sweden or Finland? I forget) I find nearly impossible. One last thing, the tracks get markedly harder after NZ so keep practicing!!

If it all gets too hard try typing in OPENROADS as your name...

Fast One and Swerve, the Navigator tells me to turn right and I shout back "No, left turns rule, it is the fastest way around the course."

DJS, I have also won a Rally championship on the Need for Speed V-Rally PSX game. I figured that I could just insert this game in and start kicking arse but I haven't. It seems to be more challenging than the above or Grand Turismo 2's Rally portion. I have noticed that I have been running 1st time wise and one little bobble puts me back to 3-5th. I wonder if I should starting using the Subaru as my car instead of the Ford Focus. Thanks for taking the time to answer my post.

Fast One - GPL it ain't. It is a bit of a laugh but it is a realistic driving game rather than a die-hard simulation.

Worth buying though - especially as it is a platinium game now.

Yes, you should drive the Subaru. I do. Not always in the game though. ;)

Why is it that the Subaru is the quickest car, given that Colin drives one in the game?? :) PeaQ, we've got a used WRX at work, its an STi with about 40K's on the clock. However it needs new front discs and pads. The pads are only available from Japan and cost Aus$350 a set!! Ditto the discs but they are about Aus$500 each!!!!

Joe Fan - Which difficulty setting are you on?? It is pretty tough going on expert & I struggle to better 4th or 5th myself. However, on Intermediate I have won every rally in the season.

For setup the default settings for NZ seem to be ideal. I have managed a 2:20-57 for stage 1 in the Quattro & 3:04-40 in the Corolla for stage 2 as examples. How do your times stack-up??.

Kiwi, I guess I am on the intermediate setting. I started off playing champioship mode which probably wasn't a good idea. I think the biggest problem I am encountering is getting used to each stage. I have played around in the time trial mode using a Ford Escort at the first stage of New Zealand and my first time was 2:54:77 and after three more attempts I am down to 2:46:02 (8 1/2 seconds lower). So practice and getting familiar with the stages is the biggest obstacle. I will try other cars out to see if any are better.

P.S. My game doesn't have a Quartro car. Is your game different?

Joe - It's in your copy too. I believe you unlock the secret cars by winning the super-special stages.
