Was the Alfa Romeo V8 that was ran by McLaren and March in the early 1970s works supported or just an Alfa engine being ran by someone. I noticed an Alfa sing on a STP March so I would assume that Alfa had some involvment.

It was a works deal (Autodelta). March got the engines for free plus £ 20.000, but had to give a seat to De Adamich (or Galli). The McLaren deal was probably like that.

Alfa Romeo: I’ have been looking for a book on the Alfa V-8 engine you speak of in Classic Motorbooks catalog and find nothing listed. Can you tell me of a book on this engine and cars it was used. Yours, M.L. Anderson

It was also bollted to the back of a McLaren in 1970, with very little success.

June 21, 2001, I received a book on the Alfa Romeo engines going all the was back to 1910 It lists the Tipo 33 / 2 Litre from 1967-1969 and seems to be used only in a sports car at that time.
Bore 78mm (3.070”) by 50.4mm (1.984”). This calculates out to 1927 cubic cm.. but the book says 1995 cm.(?) or 117 cubic inches.
HP listed at 270 CV at 9600 rpm.
Two spark plugs per cylinder.
Fuel Injection
V-8 at 90-degree bank angle.
No mention of the crankshaft as to whether it was 90 or 180-degree pattern but picture shows counterweights in the end view.
Spherical segment combustion chambers.(?)
Valves at 45-degrees included angle.
The Tipo33 / 3 Liter 90 degree-V-8 was from 1969-1971
Bore 86 (3.386”) by 64.4 (2.535”)
2993 cubic cm. or 182.6 cubic inches.
Hp listed at 440 CV at 9800 rpm.
Four valves per cylinder
Fuel injection. Single spark plug per cylinder.
No mention of the crankshaft being 90 or 180-degrees. Head studs are thru from the, cylinder head clear into the area below the piston. This is the engine that won the Targa Florio in 1971.
Tipo 33 TT 12

12 cylinder Contrapposti, 180 degree (Boxer)
Bore and stroke 77mm (3.032.”) x 53.6mm (2.220”)

Used in the March F1 as well as a sports car.
Also appears to be used thru 1977
Tipo33 SC 12 1977
