Is there any way to get GPL to run using D3D?? I haven't got a Rendition/3dfx setup. It looks nice enough in the software mode but I saw some 3D accelerated screenshots today and I want some of that thank you

No D3D but there is an OpenGL pach if your gfx card support OpenGL.

Yeah thanks, i've just tried it out. The 3D graphics bit works a treat, it looks lovely now but the display/menu screens flicker like mad
any suggestions?? When I turn the resolution of the game UP the flickering gets less, the problem is my machine is starting to struggle

Some flickering with OpenGL can be cured by going into the Advanced properties of your video card (Display properties) and clicking on the OpenGL tab. Then set buffer flipping to block transfer.
Try that - worked for me!

Swerve, the problem is my graphics card doesn't seem like a de facto OpenGL card, so I can't actually find the option to turn block transfer on. Its a card that I got with the machine so i'm not actually sure what it is
, but I normally run things in Direct3D
Great website by the way, lots of good links. I'll have to join you guys for a race when I get a bit better

Thanks Buzzin! The league is really taking off! we have nearly 30 guys signed up for the GP's and Oval racing. Keeps me and junior pretty busy. Amazing situation considering it all kicked off from a thread here.
Sorry bout your card - all I can suggest is checking out the latest drivers but apart from that maybe you could do with a nice shiny new one!!

Best news in a long while. I can't wait to get back home and install it, I just hope it will work better than the open GL driver.
Thank you BuzzingHornet for bringing this to our attention.

No problem
Its really good, no glitches so far (like the OpenGL patch). The programmers are doing a great job with after-sales support for GPL, i'm impressed

I however encountered a problem with the mirrors. I solved it by changing DirectMirrorRendering=1 to ...=0. I'll have to see if I can change any of my card's settings so that I could go back to allowing the direct rendering.
My card is the Diamond Viper-ultra.

OK so what i really want to know is are you guys getting full races in? I mean like 12lappers or whatever? Or are there still heaps of glitches and you have to be a computer expert to get it to work on-line? I don't want to get back into it (because it is just so great) only to be dissapointed again.

GeForce DDR, 1280x1024, FF, detail bias on the high side of 50%, mirrors on full, 20 cars on the track, pegged at 36FPS, dips to about 32-33 for a second or two at the start. Just played for about an hour with no real glitches (the odd little flicker here and there, but no big deal). Woohoo! Thanks papyrus:) Oh, I was using the NVidia detonator 5.30 drivers and the default GPL D3D setup that is specified in the readme file.

Well, then, I guess I'll install the D3D patch and give GPL a spin...
