As England's answer to Howard Cossell makes ready to deliver his last pontification during a televised Formula One Grand Prix, it is only fitting that we on TNF put together a compilation of Murrayisms.

I offer the following: "The lead car is absolutely unique, except for the one behind it which is identical"

My personal favourite (apart from the one Marcel beat me to!):

"If I'm not very much mistaken ... I am very much mistaken"

Oh Gil, you devil, you've started something here!

Put me down for:

Murray: "And there are flames coming from the back of Prost's car as he enters the swimming pool."
James: "Well, that should put them out then."

Not so much a quote, but i remember seeing it a coulple of times on auntie's sportsbloomers on the BBC doing a special on the murray-isms

[after a post race interview with Mansell after the Austrian GP 1987] Murray : "How did you get that nasty bumb on your head Nigel?" [Nigel leans forward to show the camera as Murray pokes it with his finger !] Nigel: "OWCH!!" :p

And there is Murray's famous commentary on a British Rallycross event. The camera was following the leader, and Murray was describing how the driver had cut holes in the windscreen so that he could still see despite all the mud, just as the driver drove straight on into an earth bank.

Not forgetting his commentary at a Lydden Rallycross:

" The reason that they cut a whole in the windscreen is so that they can so where they're going with all the mud flying around ".

At which point the driver drove straight into an earth bank !

I love Murray!

Some of my faves are..

'And now excuse me while i interrupt myself'

'Mansell is slowing down........he's taking it easy. Oh no he isn't! It's a new lap record!'

'I imagine the conditions in those cars today are totally unimaginable'

 he's great!

In my opinion there is three basic ingredients to a Grand Prix racing be a REAL Grand Prix racing:
1. The Monaco Grand Prix
2. The Ferrari team
3. Murray Walker on the microphone.
And just to add one of my favorites:
"It's rainning and the track is wet".
