Ragged, McLaren offered a seat to Michael at the end of 98, offering more money than Ferrari and more than what they pay Mika. This is what Schumi is referring to. Sorry if you missed this
Did Schumacher imply 4x WDC at Williams or McLaren?

Jecko,
While most of what im reading in this thread from Samurai I don't buy at all, I do think that if JV had been in the Ferrari last year he could have very well beaten Mika. In 97 it wasn't a matter of JV wasn't good enough, it was just a matter of JV wasn't smart enough, but I think hes matured to his peak at this point.

That Benetton theory sounds fine as well - he is talking about 1996-97, that is for sure.
RedFever, it is perfectly possible Michael was offered a McLaren drive in 1996, 1997 and 1998, which he turned down. However, he was also offered Williams and Benetton drive in 1996 and surely also in 1997. 1998 in either of them would not have interested him anyway.
Michael said today that he felt it would have been a shame if Eddie had won the WDC in 1999 since Mika is better driver - surely then saying that he would have beaten Mika twice with certainty is in total contrast with this.
It is precisely this respect point which makes me certain Michael is referring to lesser opponents of 1996 and 1997.
