For those who are going to the Canadian GP and have no place to stay:

I will stay in a University residence, and some of them are really cheap ($12.50 a night!!). You have to pay extra for bedsheets, but I'll bring my own. Being a broke-ass student, this suits me just fine.

We're staying in a hotel in Longueuil GP week(end). Never been on that side...hope it has good access to the city/track, etc. Can't wait.

I looked into those university suites, was a pretty good deal.

I usually stay at the Marriot Chateau Champlain. If you find yourself having to make reservations now(which alot of people in Montreal say is late) try calling the Montreal Reservation Center at 1-800-567-8687

Chris G., if you're thinking of taking the Metro to the track, you'll be in really good shape--from the Longueuil station, it's one stop. getting to the track will be fast; leaving will be less so since fans heading back to Montreal also use (crowd) the one station at the track.

for Montreal centre-ville, the Metro is convenient again, or, by car, a short blast over the Jacques Cartier bridge.

Mila, we usually stay downtown and then take metro to track. Is it even possible to drive to the track. I also heard that you can take the Jacques Cartier to the other side of the rowing basin (east I guess) and then take a ferry over to grandstand 11 instead of walking 3 miles (feels like it at least). do you know anything about that ferry. Thanks

Aside from the student dorms ... which may still be available ... there are absolutely NO hotel rooms left anywhere in the downtown core. I called / surfed them all ... NOTHING.
As a matter of fact, the closest I could find was a Sheraton in Laval ... which is I understand 30 min or so from downtown by car.
That's procrastination for you!!!

However, there is hope. The last 3 years downtown hotels have opened up close to the race date ... you have to be at the right place @ the right time ... and of course be able to weasle out of any other reservations ... which is not always easy!

My good friend got a room yesterday at the Marriot Chateau Champlain, in the same hotel that my wife and I will be in. The lady there told him that there were plenty left.

bigblue, a ferry to your end of the track? is your name Ecclestone? no, I don't know of it, but obviously it would work out very nicely.

we haven't tried to park on Ile Ste-Helene since 95--pre-JV. so, sorry, I don't have any info for you.

If you like camping and have a car, I'd suggest Parc Oka on the left bank of the Saint-Lawrence. It's not too far away from town, but is usually not too busy in early June and the local cheese makers (have you had Oka cheese) are marvellous.

Park the car (for FREE, yes, free) at the Hippodrome at the Jean-Talon exit of Autoroute Decarie. From there it's a longish (but easy) Metro ride to Ile Sainte-Helene.

Bear in mind that I live in British Columbia, so there may be a better way known to locals only, but this worked for me in 1998.
