We haven't even unpacked in Melbourne yet and rumours in German newspapers are already flying, about the return of an F1 engine supplier.
Renault pulled out of F1 at the end of 1996, but kept their technical staff up to date on the technology front, by building the Supertec engines which power the Benetton and Arrows engines this season.
The French motor manufacturer's main board is having a meeting on the day before the Australian GP to discuss its motor racing programme.
Originally, it was thought they could be back next year, but German sources claim the Renault diamond could be back on the engine cover of the Benettons in time for Round 2 in Brazil on 26th March. Earlier reports indicated that Renault could return before the first GP in Australia.

Renault's return if it happens would be great. Though not really fair (if such a thing exists in F1) to Arrows who would be stuck with the Supertech without Works support.
I think that a varied field of engine supply and chassis make for more interest.
Though most engine makers will have much work to do to cope with the new regulations and legal materials for 2001. It could be a useful development season for Renault.
