In my reading of Race Engines International 1988 there is a listing of the firing order for the old Honda 80 degree V-6 turbosuperchared F-1 engine. This firing order is #1-4-2-5-3-6. Or 0-80-240-320-480-560 degrees.Giving no sketch of the cylinders, but giving a statement of the numbering order as numbered front to rear and right to left. Similar to the German DIN standards.
They also stated that the crankshaft was a three pin and four main bearings. Therefore the crankshaft was firing off angle of 40 degrees. That is being off of the 120 degrees of the formula,”720 degrees divided by the number of cylinders”.
I am wondering if anyone on the BB has run into this before.
This engine must have had a lot of Secondary shake, as the pistons were not in the same position of the bore on the opposite bank. The pistons did not “Box” at the same speed and inertia factor”. All in all a weird way to go! Revision July 1, 2001 Looking in in the Chiltons Repair manual it states that the Ford Merkur has the same firing pattern and the same cyl. numbering method. I'll bet it didn't run as rough as the Honda racing engine. M.L. Anderson

The engine ran as two three-cylinder units with opposing cylinders sharing common con-rod journals, making exhaust interference tuning possible. Firing was simultaneous between the cylinders forming each pair of 'vee-twins' - the 80 degree angle meaning that the right-hand cylinder fired 80 degrees of crankshaft revolution before the left-hand. There would then be a further 240 degrees rotation before the next firing cycle.

So there was an uneven firing sequence and yes, it had very harsh vibration!

I don't know if it was because the firing order but Honda V6 turbo was very rough and gave a lots of vibrations.
When Senna drove Lotus-Honda for the first time, he thought something is broke in engine. Later Honda added balance shuft to reduce vibration.

You could hear the sound a bit.
