magnum,

Do you know a place in NY city that will show the race live? WHERE IS IT???

If anyone else has an idea of a NY night-spot with Speedvision, I'd love to know about it!

Magnum, Todd, and all New Yorkers!
I'm on vacation, guys! I'm definitely willing to do the 3 hour+ trip from Central PA to watch the GP live and meet some of you guys! So let me know, too! Please!

If I succeed in finding anything, I'll certainly post it here. Last season I had no luck finding a place that would open for the Sunday morning races, but maybe this Saturday night race will work out. There is a "Hooters" in midtown that I think has SV, but mid-town isn't exactly rocking on Saturday nights, so I have no idea if they'll be open. I'll call them if I remember tomorrow. Unfortunately, I have about three days of work to do tomorrow. One of them I have to accomplish between 11 am and 1:30 pm, the next from 1:30 to 3 pm and the third starts at 4 and will go LATE. Hopefully, I'll be firing on enough neurons at 3 to make some calls, but I have to do all the stuff I usually get done between 8:30 am and 6:00 pm between the hours of 8:30 and 9:30 and between 3:00 and 4:00, so I might forget to breath instead. ;)

Todd,

The announcers on Speedvision frequently speak of(and name) places in NY that are open in the early hours to watch the race. Keep an ear out and I'm sure they will plug those places again.

As a side note they speak several times of a bar on the West coast that is open VERY early just to watch the race. I remember this well because I get pissed off every time they mention places that have devoted F1 fans that do such things and I am stuck in North Carolina where F1 is just a word used to censor ones speech :)

Lantern, :)

No offense, but if I could hear what the Speedvision commentators were saying, I wouldn't have this problem now, would I? If you would be so kind as to post this information next time you watch a race, I would be very grateful. ;)

Todd i watched the final race of the 99 season here -tis a restaurant -only problem is they do not have (at least i don't know if they do)speedvision -i watched the race on RAI network live in NY -if u can bare the Ferrari uber alles attitude of the italian commentators, the restaurant is:
La Giara
33rd and 3rd
i'll pop over there 2morrow night to see if they're showing the race (and maybe get to watch the qualies hey!) On the plus side, tis the best italian food in New York -and they have a little bar from where one can watch the racing while diners dine ... last year the owners had a magnum of champagne all chilled and ready for consumption until Hakkinen's ... well never mind u get the point. I'll let ya know ...

Magnum,

Thanks for the tip. I might have RAI on Time Warner cable. I looked at the international channels on a TV schedule to see if they were showing the race and I didn't see it. I'll take another look.

Todd yes and no:-) i too have RAI on Time Warner, but i believe that the Sattelite version of RAI is completely different to the Time Warner version of RAI ... am i correct? be interested to know -certainly my cable is not showing the GP until 11:00am sunday morning on FSNY and on no other channel ...

Todd,

You hadn't mentioned that you didn't have Speedvision. I just thought you were hard up for a place to get drunk during the GP while surrounded by a lot of other dunk race fans :) Just like being at the race itself ;)
.....or at least a NASCAR race(I have no F1 reference yet).

Bring on the USGP!!

if u can stick it up there, u can stick it up anywhere....

Todd, the RAI you have on Time Warner is only on 1 hour each day for news, etc and sunday 3-4 hours (soccer game, news, etc). The restaurants have RAI via satellite, they get the entire programming of all three RAI channels, so you need that to see the race. Only problem: RAI might not have all the races, some might be with the competition (Italia 1), so I am not sure, check with the restaurant first

RedFever,

What are your plans for the race? Have you found a way to watch it live?

Todd, are we headed to Hooters tonight? I'm not too proud for this establishment!

Mila,

It is a 16 hour time difference, right? That would make it 9 pm to 10:30 tonight. Speedvision has a show on following it called BMW M-power. It is a good thing that I don't have Speedvision. I'd never get anything done. Let's go to Hooters for qualifying. We can consider it a test run for the race. Their Buffalo Shrimp and beer aren't bad either. I share your shame about going to Hooters, but it is better then not seeing everything live.
