Irvine Fears his Personal Safety

Wednesday March 15th, 2000

Jaguar's driver, Eddie Irvine, fears his personal safety - he revealed yesterday. Speaking after returning from the Australian Grand Prix, Irvine said: "I am very conscious of people looking at me. Look what happened to George Harrison [who was stabbed in his home by an intruder earlier this year]. I'm very careful when I go out at night these days."

Irvine cited an incident in which a man had to be restrained in a bar. "I sat down and immediately saw a guy lift a bottle," he said. "I could see he was making his way to come and whack me, but luckily my mates stopped him."

LOL,,,, Eddie: your NOT George Harrison, You never will be George Harrison............LOL....

Judging from how some people on this board seem to really and truly hate drivers I can see what he means.

He used to just have to worry about having enough condoms for the night, sheesh it must suck to be Eddie Irvine.. LOL

Pacman

You attitude on this sucks. Have you never heard of actresses or actors having stalkers or restraining orders against people. Its not only rock stars who have then. Eddie is in the public eye and will get people who want to have a go, or hate him or want to take him out. Look at what happened to Jill Dando, she was no rock star.

Anyway, I blame TOM, where ya hiding Tom. We all know its you :) :)

I'm with pacman on this.

The real egomaniac in F1 is Eddie.

The fact that he's got some of you fooled into thinking he is a humble man is pretty ironic.

Hey Eddie. Shut up and drive.

Hehhehe, the part that Eddie probably left out is how bad his "mates" kicked that guy's ass.

Maybe he porked the drunken loser's girlfriend. Those of you who don't think that all public figures need to be wary of stalkers though, are pleasantly oblivious.

Edmund's biggest worry ought to be being Bobbited by a maniacal star****er.

That "Bobbiting" may help him drive faster, it would cut down the wind resistance in his trousers.
Somebody interviewed Eddie over the weekend and asked him , Now he owns a Ferrari and a Jag, which one does he use when going out on a date?. He replied "i usually take a Taxi".

Lets face it, I think his chances of dying in a bar room brawl are pretty slim.... Compaired to, Flying his own helicopter, being drunk whilst boating around Monaco (in his yacht called "Babe Magnet") and driving a F1 car at speeds in excess of 260mph....

I rekon the bars the safest place out of all of them...

Funny that Eddie should mention George Harrison - who was interviewed on the start grid just before the Oz GP.

Are they mates?

Perhaps Eddie had told George that he knew somewhere safer to hang out!

How do such people get onto the track a few minutes before a race? and why? Is there no security?

Peter -- I would have liked to have seen George's interview. He's been an F1 fan for a long, long, long time (pun intended); he's good friends with Jackie Stewart, Emmo Fittipaldi, and wrote the song "Faster" about the late great Ronnie Peterson. There was a limited edition single of "Faster" that had a picture of Peterson's Lotus pressed into it.

Don't know if George is a friend of Irvine...I think Eddie's a little too wild for George's taste...

If Eddie's story is accurate then it's pretty sad when people do these sorts of things. No matter how much we may dislike a driver or anyone else, to resort to unprovoked violence???!!!

I guess this guy may have been really drunk, which would sorta explain things....see a guy with everything you want - fame, money, good looks, fast car, faster girls, etc etc - what else to do in your drunken stupor but beat him up!! But no excuses if he was sober.
