O.K. - that's it for me... I'm officially checking-out. Jason Priestly running down to the Williams pit to "inquire" about an "oil pressure/fuel pressure" problem put me over the edge. I can endure the generic, watered-down banter between Jenkins, and Cheever, but Jason Priestly covering the pits SOLITARILY is just too much. Hell, I'd even take Jack Arute at this point.

Cheever & Priestley couldn't talk their way out of a paper bag.

Message to all TV studio executives: It's the announcers, stupid! The reason why CART coverage stinks is the announcers; F1 is great everywhere else, so why does it suck today? THE ANNOUNCERS! Give me Varsha anyday.:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

I always like David Hobbs...

I think it was Hobbs who covered f1 back in the ESPN days.. poor broadcasts, but Hobbs seems a little cooler than Cheever.

What is the deal with Cheever anyways? Is he secretly Canadian?

Priestley:

"It would appear that Williams are on a one-stop but they are crazy so, you know.."

Shoot me, shoot me please. At least hit me in the head with something blunt and dense. Jason Priestley meets both those qualifications, now doesn't he?

Hell, I'd even maybe take Shannon Doherty over this... Wait, I definately would.

"Carzy"?!?!?!?! WTF?!?!?! I mean this is not language to be used in Formula 1. I may use language like this while talking to friends and you guys, but c'mon, this is not very professional on his part, and on ABC's part. He probably thinks he is doing color for the IRL, where all this language is accepted as professional!

He also got the Bridgestone/Michelin blistering problem backwards. Terrible announcing. Eddie Cheever: "There's Ross Brawn." Duh.

uhhh..

When Jason was commenting on the Williams' pitstop, he referred to them as McLarens. Or, when he interviewed Antonio Sabato Jr. He said, "Antonio has some inside information on the Ferrari." Sabato Jr said, "Well, I'm not sure what happened to Michael. He was probably pushing too hard. He was running better yesterday and I don't know what happen to Rubens." Yup, some great inside information on Ferrari. Thanks, Jason.

Bob & Eddie kept referring the F1 guys as the best "road" racers in the world. Uh, yeah. I believe they are the best "Racing" drivers in the world - period! Pathetic commentating, just as I expected from this crew.

But, I will say that I was happy with the video coverage. It was better than I was expecting. If only we could have heard Murray Walker for this race!

The only redeemable quality of the broadcast was the digital feed. Now if only Bernie would allow BernieVision in the US so I don't have to listen to the announcers ...

I heard 'Barrichello' pronounced 3 diff ways .. and just so many announcing errors. Ah well, I saw the race for free .. guess I can't complain.

After watching the ABC broadcast, there is no hope for F-1 to succeed in the U.S. if this is what we can expect in the future if Speedvision looses the rights.
The announcers managed to make it completely boring and the average American probably switched to the NASCAR race, where at least the announcers knew the drivers names.
Cheever knows his stuff but it was embarassing listening to him try to talk down to the casual U.S. viewer. The other guys are truly hopeless...

Watching from Canada I was fortunate enough to watch the TSN coverage with Martin and Murray. During the ad breaks I switched to ABC, but after hearing some idiot saying "as Michael Schumacher is being followed by the....ah uh "other" car" (which was actually Montoya) I decided to use my mute option on the remote control.
I will say one thing though, and that is the video feed was far better than the one we got on TSN. If only it was'nt for the idiots speaking...

If only we could have gotten Murray and Martin with all the Digital feed that would have been amazing.

I guess that is what the digital package is, though.

I guess the one thing I figured was that Jenkins probably got stage fright? I don't think he covered it last year did he? He was probably still memorizing helmets, but it wouldn't have hurt if he practiced a little more. I guess its a reflection of mainstream America's indifference to the sport. You can bet that NASCAR is covered MUCH, MUCH MUCH MUCH better. Not to knock NASCAR OR F1.

I don't exactly know what you are pals talking about.
(Please explain to your dummy cousins at Europe?)

But one thing came on my mind If that Jason Priestly is that same geek in serie Beverly Hills 90647674673467325674567 or what ever.

Have you ever wonder, in movies and tv-series actors which don't know ANYTHING about normal life (piss has go trought up the head), does ACT normallife people (er... close enough) in movies and tv-series? Weird?

Now you know the trouble I'm having with the digital feed in the Netherlands. The commentator on BernieTV are morons and I end up watching the race on the normal feed witch has an excellent commentator and good "pit reporters" and taping the digital feed. But I guess I'm still lucky for having digital feed....

Um, why is this comment pathetic?

Isn't F1 the pinnacle of auto racing, where the worlds best drivers go race in the best cars for something called the "World Championship"?

don't let emotions get the best of you, dude.

slyder I believe 911 is upset by the broadcasters qualifying their statement by calling F1 drivers the best "road racers" in the world, the implication being that world's best "racers" (period) were elsewhere, (i.e. in an American racing series ... you know which one).

My favorite part was when Jenkins refered to the Nick Heidlfeld's car as one of the Sober's    Is Cheever in love with Ron Dennis or what. He mentioned how Ron won two world championships for Mika two or three times.

P.S. Most Americans switched to the NASCAR race because Alan Bestwick is an awesome announcer. We were trying to remind ourselves that there are still professionals in the commentating business.

THAT record belongs to Andrea de Cesaris, thank you very much!

I quote Bob Jenkins " There's David Coul-Tard followed by ...... That other car." I'm not lying thats exactly what was said, play the tape back and check. Also everytime the Team Radio was on the announcers would not shut up.

I cant wait for Speedvision's replay.

I truly agree that comments like ...... other car ..... long pause .... heidfeld does influence the knowledgable viewer.
Heidfeld was brilliant as usual, Raikk f***ed up.
I believe that the radio transmissions said there was an oil pressure problem with Montoya's car. Priestley asked the Williams crew about "Fuel" pressure problem. Williams of course denied.

Overall at least Priestley seemed to give fairly good questions considering his limited knowledge. However, EJordan was the only one answering smartly! The guy with inside info on Ferrari didn't sound like he had a clue!
The other guys commenting ..... should at least know a little bit more about F1!

I liked the effort but ABC needs to get some former F1 driver with CURRENT info!

I think you guys are a little harsh at poor Priestley..... I know 90210 was really terrible but give the guy a break! At least he looked interested!

I`ve heard rumours from an unreliable source, that he will star as Steve Austin,The 6 Billion Dollar Man,if he does that...he will win your respect.

Why isnt Bernie-vision available worldwide? Seems to me he could make even MORE money if he offered it pay-per-view. Id sure pay for it.

Spa, '83.

de Cesaris lept to the lead from the second row and led Prost for 22 glorious laps.

Then he crashed (not really, the engine blew up).
