Did you cut across the water after the tunnel ?

I don't really enjoy the game that much. You can go full speed through a corner with the wheel turned all the way, yet nothing different happens from when its turned half-way. Perhaps I have my settings screwed up.

You are right....
Now my best time is a 1:18.8 @ Monaco, but remember this is w/ PS2, not the PC (that's why I posted the other thread: EA Sports F12001 - PS2 vs PC). Therefore, I don't know if the lap times are comparable. Also, this was in the time challenge mode, too.

1:14.6
P.S when I played qualifying, I saw computer times as much as 1:06 as the best, 1:08 as the standard for the top teams, if anyone is getting near these times, would appreciate set up advice, as I can't belieive I'm 6 seconds off the pace, I'm a decent enough to get close to the limit, so hope its not a EA data mistake or something, what was Michael Schumachers pole time this year at the A1 RING, that might help.

Is this in normal or simulation mode?
#12

Set pole at 1:23:9x
and fastest lap was 1:26:x
No aides, full simulation on PC. I straightlined the 1st chicane at the start and rejoined in 3rd place. After pitstops I was in 2nd (past Ralfy boy (i was in Montoyas car)) and charged down Rubens and passed him at the first chicane. Gain a lead by 12 seconds, .. and I suffered a mental lapse going into Parabolica. Stupid mistake really, I didn't run wide or anything, I just got on the power too quick and tried to fight it out instead of lifting, sending myself into the gravel and failed to catch the clutch fast enough.
Sucks .. but hey, thats racing

It's in the normal mode... I haven't tried the simulation mode, yet. Is it harder?

Yes. Much harder.
In simulation mode, the challenge area uses a setup that I'm confident a person can never acheive.
I made three attempts in the challenge level, simulation mode at Monaco - 1.20.113 fastest lap
I made many attemps in the practice time for a race, hard competition, traction control and ABS off, Damage on.My best time was 1.26.8xx. Of course, you can do better if you play and practice longer, but it isn't remotely equal to compare the PC and PS2 versions if your not in simulation mode.
BTW, I use the Force Feed back wheel.

Unfortunately, I don't think a hotlap cmpetition will be very reliable. Why? Because all the car's physics can be edited using a text editor.

High Gear has indeed a good F1 2001 forum, it's only a shame that people don't often comment on other people's hard work. The guy who was asked to make setups for instance didn't get any response until he asked for it. But, overall, it's good.

Loxley,
Yes, I see what you mean -> it IS harder... I will have to do some practicing, for sure, to get some quick times in this mode. In the normal mode I was able to dip into the low 1:17s yesterday and I'm sure I could get into the 15s (just picked up the PS2 & the game on Sunday), but that will all change now with the simulation mode. I actually like the simulation mode (although I suck at it right now) because you can spin the car quite easily if you are not careful. In the normal mode, it's impossible to spin once you get off the line.
Do you use the Force Feed back wheel for PS2, or do you have the PC version of the game? Some time ago I tried a wheel w/ PS1 and I didn't like the feel of it. The wheel was way too sensitive and I couldn't change the setup of the wheel so I returned it (it was probably a cheapy). Therefore, I've always used the regular keypad joystick.
Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I did a very good lap, got a 1m 11.9 and still working on set ups, I'm glad its closer to 1m 09.562s, but EA's qualifying on Grand Prizx at the A1 RING, had times as much as 1m 08s, best, 1m 06s, so seems they made a mistake on that track.

Had a quick 15 laps and that is the best I can do so far but will try some more later. Very difficult indeed, especially controlling the throttle. Very frustrating at first but became great fun and very much a driving experience.

Well, to be honest, I am in a dilema. I hate driving a car that takes a good driver out of the race so I never drive Alesi's Jordan as I want to race him but I do want to drive a Jordan as its my favourite team so I take Trulli's car but then Trulli is a driver I like to race against also so I don't like to take his car either. So to cut a long story short, I usually end up in a Minardi replacing Taso Marques. I am bugged really. Never going to win in a Minardi. Its nice to drive mind, slow but very stable.
the reason I took the McLaren was because its fast. I took the Williams first but itis so twitchy and harder to drive. I will try the Ferrari later as its meant to be very stable and fast.

Been doing a few laps at Austria working on a setup and this is what I have done so far. I never did a perfect lap though. Either braked to early or braked to late and so I guess I can get a 1.08.xx out of this setup with a perfect lap. If anyone wants a copy then email me on,

I got a 1m 10.67, a vast improvment, from my 1m 14m I was doing last week.
I seriously need driving aids of Acceleration set to low, and opposite lock on, otherwise just can't get the sensitity the game requires with my microsoft sidewinder pad. But without opossite lock I'm a half second slower at least.

Used manual gears. I have the feeling that this is much faster than auto gearn as you can downshift early and "brake on the engine". Only have to watch out for locking wheels though.

A challenge! good, so manual gears and default set up, which means I've been wasting alot of time on tyre pressures, cambers, wing, back to basics!

man, i am ecstatic! my previous best had been in the 1:37's, and then i pulled of this one. i had always been fast in the first sector, but i guess i managed a decent second and a pretty fast third sector. my brother, who ALWAYS beats me at racing games only got a 1:36, and after seeing my time he pulled off a 1:34.8. i feel great. to make it even more sweet, my brother said that the first sector at Suzuka is the true test of driver skill. (the sector that Schumacher annihilated everyone in)
my sector 1 time...28.8
my brother's ... 29.1

oh, this is on PS2, btw. also, i did this with the Jaguar. i dont know if there is much difference between cars though?

The Ferrari sticks on the road like glue, the McLaren understeers and the Williams has awesome power. The Jag is a dog to drive, very unstable.
