I went back out a few days later and hesitantly purchased F1 2001 by EA, got home, plopped it in my PS2 and have been thrilled ever since. The game is so strong on so many fronts, graphics, options, sounds, weather simulation, car handling and AI.
If you own a PS2 this is the F1 game to buy.

Why is 989 Liverpool Studios credited with Formula One 2001 by Sony? I thought it was 989 that did the latest F1 game for PS2.

EA now have had two games in the US, F1 Championship Season 2000 and the latest F1-2001
There is also another F1 game, F1 Racing Championship, by Ubisoft I think, but dont thinks its available in the US.

Any info on setups in Simulation mode. Also any body notice a difference in handling between a Williams and BAR? etc. Any info on this would be great. Perhaps we can start a "Setup" thread with lap times and specific setups(air pressure, aerodynamics, suspension, gear ratio's etc.)
Thanks all
See Ya

Funny thing is when Sony bought Psyg in 1993 we worked out rather quickly that Psygnosis was in fact an anagram for Sonys Pigs . . . how true that became!

I own both Sony's Formula One 2001 and EA's F1 2001 which is without question my favorite F1 for PS2 so far. Sony's game has much more inherent understeer than the EA version. EA's version does have a huge amount of understeer when you choose sim mode over normal driving. I haven't found a real solution yet, other than to say that modern 2001 season F1 cars are reportedly piggish understeerers.
I attended the Canadian GP again this year and attended GP Tours driver party. Jos Verstappen said the cars are unbearably hard to turn. The front end squirms and just lacks huge amounts of grip at medium to slow speeds.

HHF - I recently purchased EA Sports F1 2001 for PS2 and I'm blown away. I've found it considerably more difficult than previous F1 games. Regarding set-up to reduce understeer - I've only raced at Hockenheim in the Williams so far (I still need a lot more practice at driving and fine-tuning the set-up). One thing that I found to help some is increasing the tire pressures. I increased the fronts two steps above default (I don't remember the exact pressures) and the rears one step above default. That seemed to help (but not cure) the understeer problem.
I haven't tried it yet but have you tried using more wing on the front to help with the understeer?
Is anyone having problems with braking? When I apply the brakes, they tend to lock up just like that. They are either full-on or off. I tried to reduce the brake strength but then I have to brake way too early to for a turn.
Hockenheim best time: 1:37.8 (but I can't do it consistently in simulation)
Thanks in advance for your input.

I know you mentioned that you adjusted the brake strength, but to what setting? I use 50 -> 55 (bias) and 35 -> 40 (strength) and it works very well for me.
I had the same problem you did (brakes locking up on a dime), but once I changed it to these settings the car felt very nice!

God I thought it was just me. Way to small, and you can't make it bigger.Originally posted by Jerry Lee
... But, does any one else have trouble reading the incredibly small numbers they're using to show lap and split times.![]()

Ricardo F1,
A question for you since you must still know people at Sonys Pig

Why are the graphics sooooo bad on the new game. If EA can get it right why didn't they?

Try using higher tire pressures. max out the rears and you can dial out the oversteer. Haven't completely cured the understeer yet but a softer suspension setup will help if the Game has any relation to setting up a real F1 car.
Yeah the split times are too small and the Qualifying times go by too quick.
Hey nothings perfect even though we would like it to be.
Has any one noticed that if your running interactive Pit Stops it doesn't nessasarily mean the other drivers (AI) pit!!
What 's up with that???
Cheers!

I have had many pit stop battles.
I have won races because of pit stops.
Now if I could just stop stalling it in the pits that would be a big leap.

I didn't get a memory card yet, so I played the Quick Race mode. I was worried at first because it wouldn't let me calibrate my old PS wheel, but once I got into the game and drove some laps I decided that it wasn't that big a deal. I did 19 Quick Races (one on each track, plus an extra race at Silverstone and Monza to get enough points to unlock at Monaco). I was extremely impressed with almost everything, but there were a few minor shortcomings I saw:
1. Eau Rouge seems too flat
2. parts of Monaco didn't seem quite right
3. on slow-speed corners, the other cars come almost to a stop
4. the smoke at the start of the races seems to last too long
5. results flew by too quickly after the races
Other than that, it's the best racing game I've ever played by far. A HUGE step up from EA's F1 Championship Season 2000 for Playstation.

Sorry, it was very late when I posted, and I just KNEW that SOMETHING I typed wouldn't make any sense.

What I meant was the tire smoke at the start of the race. The smoke lasts so long, it's very difficult to see anything until you are way down the straightaway and well up to speed. You would think with traction control this wouldn't be the case.

The two issues I have is learning how not to get so much whell spin at the start and stalling it in the pits.
