Ok folks...Alesi's final show, maybe Mika's final show. Juan to prove MonzaB wrong? Gonna be an exciting one. Are a lot of the folks here in a different timezone to this race and will be sleeping through qualifying?

Id say most Europeans and Americans will still be asleep.

I'll follow the F1 Qualifying on F1-Live and watch the 500cc quals at the same time on TV.

I'm European, but are not asleep. Has to do with the fact that I live in Asia :p

It's is only midnight in the States. Couldn't imagine going to sleep with the quals live here.

For someone who's not suppose to be motivated, Jacques seems to have hopped into the car before any other driver...

The times have been extremely fast so far this weekend. Any predictions for the pole time?

Interesting what Brundle was saying about Michelin tires being fast when new for qualifying, then being fast again after they are scrubbed in for the race. Almost like having double the number of tires available.

The qualifying lap record here is 1:34.700 (1991).
Which is already broken this morining by Ralf, so I expect a new (official) qualifying lap record this hour.

When they say "scrubbed" does that actually mean they take a steel brush to the tyres or something? Or does it just mean they use the tyres for a few laps to "wear" them in?

They use the tyres for a few laps. It looks as if the Michelin run better when they have time too cool off again.

I'd wager a 1:32:245 (or thereabouts :p ) will be the pole time. Maybe even in the 1:31s

They have to run the tyres for a certain time at a certain temperature in order to get them to just the right state of wear. With the Michelins it seems if it's not done just right they won't have optimum grip or won't last long enough.

That Alonso kid is a damn fine driver. I'd say he'll qualify ahead of at least one Arrows, one Minardi (duh) and a Prost. He won't be on the back row.

I predict Mika and Michael would've been in a league of their own as usual. The BMW engine and possibly Michelins are allowing the Williams' to get into the fray though.
