Being one of many proud scottish people in the world i was glad to hear allan mcnish get the toyota drive.

So here is my question when was there more than one scottish driver in f1 ( i think clark and stewart competed together) and what is the most number of scottish drivers in f1 at one time.

There were three in 1965. Clark, Stewart, Ireland.

Would have to be the 1952, 1953 or 1954 British GP (Yes, I know the first two weren't F1, but I'm assuming we're using the term to mean WDC). No data to hand - I'll check later if no-one beats me to it

Not the British Gp's - the two already mentioned are correct:
In total: 13 (WDC events)
David Murray (1950-52), Ian Stewart (1953), Jimmy Stewart (1953), Leslie Thorne (1954), Ron Flockhart (1954-1960), Archie Scott-Brown (1956), Innes Ireland (1959-66), Jim Clark (1960-68), Jackie Stewart (1965-73), Jim Crawford (1975), Johnny Dumfries (1986), David Coulthard (1994- ), Allan McNish (2002- )

Have now checked, and admit I guessed wrong about those ‘50s British GPs.
Redoing Richie’s list to find the most Scottish drivers in F1 at any one time, we get Ireland, Clark and Flockhart in 1960 and Clark, Ireland and Stewart in both 1965 and 1966.
However, the greatest number of Scottish drivers to compete in a specific F1 race was six, at Winfield in 1951: Murray, Flockhart, Dobson, I Stewart, Skelly and Dickson, and there may have been others as well. It should however be mentioned that only Murray had a pukka F1 car.
I was right about 1952 and 1953 in one respect: they were the years that more Scots raced in the championship formula than at any other time: Dobson, Sanderson, J Stewart, I Stewart, Skelly, Melvin and Little all took part in F2 races, admittedly mostly non-championship events. And Melvin and Little raced stripped sportscars rather than proper F2 cars. In 1953 we had Flockhart, J Stewart, I Stewart, Sanderson, Scott-Douglas, Lawrence, Somervail, McBain and Skelly. And I’m perfectly ready to accept that I’ve probably missed some in both years.

The Ecurie Ecosse entered an A-type Connaught (A6) in F2 races and sometimes in real GP (British GP for instance) during seasons 53 and 54. Peter Hughes, Jock Lawrence, James Scott-Douglas, Ian M.M. Stewart and Leslie Thorne drove the car. The team had also in the same period a Cooper T20 Bristol which was raced by Jimmy Stewart (Jacky's brother), Ninian Sanderson and Jock Lawrence.

The other Scottish team The Border Reivers Team also entered a Cooper T20 Bristol with the Somervail's brothers (Jock and Jimmy), Keith Hall and Jock McBain as drivers. After solding their car, the Border Reivers Team would loan the Ecurie Ecosse Cooper.

Masten Gregory once drove for The Ecurie Ecosse. His grandmother was Scottish.

Are you sure Flockhardt was Scottish? I thought he was English but maybe I am thinking of Jack Fairman.

I never regarded Scott-Brown as Scottish: OK, he was born in Paisley, but started racing in England. Does anyone know what sort of accent he had?
Don't remember Jim Crawford being Scottish either.

Archie did not have a Scottish accent so far as I recall but his dad was a Scot.

His ashes were taken back to Scotland and I think were spread on the Clyde

Crawford was born in the very Scottish town of Dunfermline, Fifeshire.

Ah now I see your point. Difficult question to pinpoint actually, as Tony Rolt was born in Wales, but I've never really considered him Welsh. I was born in England yet I'm a very proud Welshman. I think for the purposes of this thread, I'll count him in the Scottish drivers list as being Scottish-born but not knowing him overly well, debate on whether he is British first, Scottish second perhaps better be left to others. I do know he's proud to be British. :)

Glad you're with me now, Rich. You can see why I can never regard Bandini as Libyan, or Mike Beuttler as Egyptian. Or, in a different world, Cliff Richard as Indian. :)

If Dario Franchitti was offered and took the drive at Jag, then we would have three next season. I was hoping for it anyway. CHeers.

Jim had a Scottish father and an English mother. They lived in Rosyth at the time of his birth, but he was schooled in Bolton where he eventually made the Chevron connection.

Don't forget that Stirling Moss had a Scottish mother - she was a Crauford, but I forget from whereabouts in the country.

Stirling, I believe.............hence the name (thsnk God he wasn't christened Hamish, their first choice!)

And Lotus once had an all-Scot 3-car team - Clark, Ireland and Flockhart.
