This is another field with lots of gaps in my recordings. Martin has 4 Races mentioned in his stats in 1964: Rhodesian GP, East London GP (2 races?), Rand GP and Killarney. In all these races Peter Sutcliffe campaigned a 250 GTO quite successfully. But that is all we know. Has anybody more on these races? Any information is very much appreciated.

I will check the info that was sent to me recently by the previous owner of the Elfin Malalla that my finacee just bought.
This car finished 4th in the 9hr race at Kylami.

He sent all kinds of magazine articles, etc.

The 1964 Rand 9 Hours was won by David Piper/Tony Maggs in a Ferrari 275 LM (or should the purists say 250LM with 3.3 motor?)

Piper's old 250GTO was second with John Love and Pieter de Klerk driving.

Peter Sutcliffe and Dickie Stoop brought home a lightweight E Type Jag 3rd.

To my knowledge Sutcliffe did not drive a 250 Ferrari in South Africa.

In 1965 he drove a Ford GT40 with Innes Ireland and came 2nd to Piper/Attwood in a Ferrari 365P2.

In the 1963 Rand 9 Hours Henri le Roux and Rob Topman entered the little Elfin Mallala. The car was #5 but it crashed after 4 hours and retired as the suspension was kaput.

The Mallala was very quick in the first few laps with le Roux hassling the Jaguar E of Sutcliffe and running ahead of David Prophet's Lotus 30 and de Klerk's GTO...but it was a 9 hour race.. and the more experienced men were probably bedding things down.

The Elfin appered again in 1966 with the experienced Joss Viljoen and George van Straaten as pilots. It had a 997 Ford engine.
This time it finished 3rd in the 1000cc class and probably about 11th overall.

Joss teamed up with Meyer Botha in 1967 and this time they won their class, but were well down the field.

Not to get off line too much, but since you provided such nice
information. Chassis #5 was found in boxes in South Africa and returned to Sydney, Australia where it was raced until recently by Steven Knox. It will be back in action at the Speed Week
in New Zealand in February by Australian "shoe" Shairon Beale
(the new owner). It will be prepped by the New Zealander Keith
"How are you Dave" Laney.

At some point in its career it was updated to a Lotus FVA twincam.

It will then be shipped to the US where "Big Ears" will join
his new best friend "Noddy", a Lotus 22 chassis #73.

Ms. Beale is EXTREMELY stoked about this new arrival!
