Replaced by Bill Ford, great-grandson of founder Heny Ford. I wonder what kind of impact this will have in the automobile industry as well as their motorsports program.

I was gonna say, I bet that Jordan seat looks a lot better to Irvine today! I wonder if the new broom will sweep the Jaguar team into the shitcan along with Nasser?

Well if it's because the company is losing money, i can tell them why -

Their cars look like ****

The triangular headlights which are on all the aussie & uk models (Don't know what US models look like) make the cars look like ****. It isn't the eighties anymore, cars have to look sleek and modern. The Ford Falcon is a shining example of an ugly car. That is why Ford is doing ****.

Plus Jaguar F1 is ****

It's just all ****

Some of these blokes get paid a lot but the job security is no better than the rest of us - it wasn't that long ago that he was flavour of the month.

He's the scapegoat, simple as that. Yes, their quality control and supplier relations suck, but it's been that way for a few years now, and the Board didn't seem to mind until their profits started to shrink.

Most of the stuff he got blamed for were from decisions made long before he became CEO -- I'd thought his time was limited when the Jag boss had such an easy time firing Bobby Rahal, Nassar's personal pick to run Jag Racing. When Lee Iaccoca was fired from Ford after a similar clash of personalities with another Ford , Henry Ford 2, he noted that Henry's blood was blue and his was only red -- well Bill's blood is blue, Jac's is only red. :)

Ford has the potential to become a treuly great company. Unfortunately now that a 'Ford Family Member' is back in the driver's seat, I doubt that this will happen.

The Ford-Firestone link goes back pretty far. Even with Firestone being owned by Bridgestone, I expect Ford to try and mend fences with the tyre company. Well lets wait and see.

They cant do much worse then GM, can they ?

That Ford Family member you speak of is a graduate of MIT (therefore no slouch in the brains department) and started work at Ford as a product manager and worked his way up.

Oh and ... Firestone was founded by his great great grandfather I think.

And yes ... GM has been gaining lately on Ford in the productivity sector.

BARnone.

Well, I hope the new CEO Ford gives the ax to the back stabbing Lauda and Irvine as soon as possible. They deserve it.

FAN !!! ( a swedish term for ****)
You guys are rough on the ford headlights!!!
I think the whole endevour was a mistake in the first place.
As true race fans we should remember, Jaguar NEVER dabbled in F1, NEVER, they were one of the old glorious endurance team. I know its just a name (so sue me)
Now with Nassar gone I can't wait for Aston Martin Rally Cars:smoking:

And the only "sports cars" we get from Ford in Australia are American tanks (mustangs and probes). For a country with so much money and resources, I fail to understand how they continuously build the ugliest cars in the world.

The only American car I would ever consider owning would be a Dodge Viper, anything else is rubbish!

Ford is head hunting--1 in 10 salaried employees are being shown the door. I absolutely guarantee you that Lauda is infinitely closer to joining Nassar in the unemployment line than he is in keeping a position with Jaguar.

there's some irony in that Rahal supposedly lost his job due to an attempt to unload EI, and Nassar gets it too, only this time because EI’s retained!

Anyway... I think that the Ford involvement in racing will still continue. In F1, the brand is represented by Jaguar, one of their "boutique" Marques. And even though it costs them dearly, the world wide representation is justified. Although they (the team) will have to step it up a bit if they want to insure support for the future.

The problem lies more in the marketing and handling of PR nightmares like the SUV / Firestone debacle. A relationship that has survived and flourished practically since both of their inceptions has been ruined. Perhaps irreparably.

Heads were going to roll after that one... His might just be the first.

A Viper ? My buddy bought one in the second year of production and his hood had NINE washers on one hinge to make the hood align somewhat. Give me my NSX anyday.

Will ford really want their jag marque sullied by a worldwide perception of slinking out of formula one in abject failure? has anything been said which actually leads anyone to assume the jaguar team, or any of its members are in jeopardy? is this all just speculation?

Do these still have leaf springs at the rear?

Sorry but I'd take any sports car from Italy, Germany or Japan before any American or British car.

But seriously folks

Ford is a traditionally a top company when it comes to producing performance machinery.
But the landscape of F1 today is hit and miss, it has been shown that despite the amount money in the till, its all about having the holy grail- when every thing works together, nothing breaks and points are scored.
Mclaren had it for 2 years, and williams before that. For 20 odd years, Ferrari, despite having the backing of FIAT had no Championships. Its all about testing, positive thinking and puttin out the dough!!!!
I think Jag has improved this year over last, if you rock the boat more it will go badly...

what do you think Jerry Nassar

The problem with Jaguar (and Ford) is that they dont keep anyone long enough to make a difference with the team. Rahal was there for less than a year before getting the boot. Everyone knows that time is needed for a team to mount a serious challenge for race wins - let alone the championship.

Darrenj - thats better!;)
