Greetings from Amsterdam,:smoking:

I used to play alot of gp2 on my pc. I mean alot at the highest level full race distances and at the time found it really great. Now i haven't played anything for a few years and know Gp3 is out but just read a message that GPL is better.

What's GPL? Is it for the PC? Can anyone with good knowledge tell me what you think the differences are and why one is better then the other? What i loved about gp2 were the changable car sets and competing in gp3 league -does that exist for gpl also

Cheers,

Just my two cents ....

GP3 was a blast, I particularly enjoyed lapping Monaco. You`ll get a feel of how and why drivers spin at certain GP corners. It`ll also show you, to a degree, the different characteristics of current GP tracks. How difficult it is to maintain concentration on one track compared to another.

GPL, although modelled on the 1967 GP era, is a different ballgame.

Get your graphics, patches and controller set up properly and you`ll see the difference for yourself before you finish your first lap.

To be blunt, it`s a far more immersive simulator than any other I`ve encountered to date.

It`s cheap (if you can find a copy), there`s tons of third party track and car updates and you can play online ..... :)

OK grab the demo from here, e-mail me with info on your cpu video card etc and i give you some links etc to get started.
BTW around 60 plus add-on tracks that will run with the demo until you track down the full version...
I'd also be interested in your impression of this 3 years old sim

Greeting from Brazil ! :) all that you said applies to me too.

Now I´m exchanging my old P266 for a P3 500mhz and was wondering the same things: which current sim is best and why.

I for one don´t have much patience to spend hours fine-tuning the car to a given circuit or even to go searcing for race setups and updates in the net (although I did a lot of that in the past). I like to sit down, turn the PC on and start beating the crap out of MS...:)

The way i see it the best simulation is GPL. The game is based on the 1967 season, and the cars are just wonderfull. The only problem is that it isn't anything like F1 today, and has i.e. no downforce (as the cars didn't have wings back then). But that is also why this game is so special, imho. Also there are tons of add-on tracks made by the GPL community, and there are car updates and gfx/sound updates. And then there is VRoc/WinVRoc that makes you able to race online against other drivers, and it works very well (even with a 56k modem or isdn). Nuff said...

If you are looking for a "modern" f1 sim, then F1 2001 from EA the best choise. It feels better than GP3, although GP3 has been improved by the GP 2000 Add-on. Both GP3 and F1-2001 have strong and weak points. Both need quite some computer to drive with all details on and with lots of AI cars. I don't know how accurate the physics in these sims are, since i have never driven a car with wings (not that i have driven a f1 car from 67 either...). But i feel that the F1-2001 have a slight edge in the physics over GP3. I really like the way that you really need to carrie the speed throught the turns in F1-2001 not to loose the downforce.

just my 2cents on the matter...

I just started playing GPL - it is fantastic (although the only track I can actually race at without spinning off every 5 seconds is Monza!!!)

I bought it ages ago and found keys impossible - now I have a steering wheel and the handling is amazing! You can slide the car and balance it on the brake and throttle - incredible.

I play GP3 2000 and F1 2001 as well, but GPL is a different league. I will still play the other games - they have their merits, but GPL is soooo more realistic I think (although ofcourse I have never driven an F1 car from 2001 or 1967!!)

Are there any good update sites for GPL, like with GP3 & F1 2001??

One thing bugged me for a while in qualifying - the times on the pitboard did not relate to what I expected - whenever I had a bad lap, I seemed to set an OK time, and whenever I had a good lap my time would be slower. Then I realised the lap board they show displays the lap before the last - as would happen in real life!!! No more confusion!!!

As I mentioned I used to play LOTS of GP2 and what I loved about it was the subtility of the setup changes and the large number of variables you could change in setup. Gp3 is similar but the graphics are better and the tracks are updated but to play it properly i need to upgrade my pc.

I recently played the EA F12001 but somehow didn't like it as much IMNSHO; but this may be because I'm used to Geoff Cramond's Gp2 &3...

With Gp2 i could literally just test for setups for hours and go faster and faster. I would constantly be bettering my setups and knowledge of how to push the car to the limit in the corners, the degree to which this is possible being dependant on how well the setup is working.

THrough the years i just kept getting faster and faster to finally be doing lap times that were quicker than i could have imagined when i just bought the game and tried it for the first time. It's this feeling of constantly evolving and becomming a better driver that kept me interested and of course Gp2 league which was fantastic for competition, comparison and sharing setup knowledge.

Now that these memories are comming back I realise that I must upgrade my pc and get GP3 and GPL running. It'll take some getting used to, better graphics, faster pc, better wheel..... winter is comming and I'm unemployed so I hope to race against you guys in some league or online linkup...until then,

Saludos

The Ring??? LOL!!! When I first loaded the game up, I though - great must try the Ring. I quickly realsied this to be a mistake, and since then I have only raced at Monza - I have trouble enough with the Parabolica!!!

Hello everyone here at Atlas F1! I am new and have come from the Global-F1 forums where things were getting horrible so I searched Yahoo! to find another F1 site that did forums that were good, and chose this one and it is mighty good! :)

Its definitely Grand Prix 3 and the addon is good as well.

It is not. You might have some success with a PC emulator, but it's a less than ideal situation. PC only I'm afraid.
