Hi all,

Can anyone help me. I'm looking for the information about two pre-war italian drivers. They took part in the 1933 Lwow Grand Prix.
The first is Guido Landi (raced Maserati 8C-1100), and the second is lady driver (first name?) Orsini (raced Masarati 4CM-1500).

Thanks
Andrzej

All I can find is a brief report in AZ-Motorwelt (Brno) 1933, No. 8, pg. 6. and MOTOR und SPORT 1933, No. 25, pg. 28
It says that the race went over 100 laps of the 3 km circuit and during the event it rained continuously. The total participation saw 18 drivers, including 3 ladies. The 1500 cc class had some good entries and a 'battle' for the lead.
1. Veyron at 78.5 km/h
2. Burggaller
3. Landi (Maserati) at 77 km/h
DNF. Simons, 81 laps (shift lever broken)
The large class was won by
1. Bergroem (Alfa Romeo) at 82.7 km/h
2. Balestrero (Alfa Romeo at 81.8 km/h

About the drivers in question, I could only find a picture of the Countess Vittoria Orsini, who entered with a Maserati 26 at this "Loepoli Gran Prix" on 11 June 1933 in MASERATI a complete history by Luigi Orsini/Franco Zagari, pg. 246

"Bergroem" was actually the noted Norwegian driver Eugen Bjørnstadt

http://homepage.mac....InPoland01.html has a little too:

<1500cc:
1.Yeyron (France, Bugatti) 78.05 kmh 3.52'44" 100 laps
2.Burggaller (Germany, Bugatti) 77.95 kmh 3.54'02"

>1500cc:
1.Bjørnstad (Norway, Alfa-Romeo) 82.78 kmh 3.40'28" 100 laps
2.Balestrero (Italy, Alfa-Romeo) 81.50 kmh 3.43'53"

The Grand Prix carries different names in different languages btw : Lwow / Lvov / Lemberg / Leopoli

Additionally http://home.t-online...dler/sport2.htm puts P.Widengren 3rd in the >1500cc category.

About the Maserati 8C 1100, http://www.maserati....po26C_spec.html makes mention of only 4 produced, so there's not too much digging around to do for that one ;) Don maybe?

I'm petty sure Landi's Maserati was a 4C, not an 8C. Not sure which model Countess Orsini had though.
Although only four 8C-1100s may have been sold in that spec, there was a lot of shuffling of engines and chassis in those days. Some 1100 owners graduated to higher classes by fitting bigger engines, and there's no reason to believe that swaps didn't go the other way as well.

Hans, David and Marcel
thank you very much

I’m preparing a complete history of the Lwow Grand Prix, and I search for everything about this race.
Such things like photos with start numbers and reports interested me, because I try reconstruction the last race (lap by lap).

Of course I know the results of the 1933 Lwow Grand Prix but...
1. Polish sources like Auto, Wiadomosci Klubowe MKA and daily papers said that Renato Balestrero was disqualified after the race. Per Viktor Widengreen was second.
2. Papers said that Guido Landi used Maserati with the 8 cylinders, 1100cc engine. It made a little sensation.

Does anyone know if Orsini is a common italian name? Is the L.Orsini who wrote the Maserati book also related to Vittoria?

The Vittoria Orsini we are talking about is from a family from Rome of very ancient nobility. I do not know if L. Orsini is related. It is a quite common family name in Central Italy meaning "pertaining to bears". We had quite a few bears around here in the old days.
