i am looking for information on something called the "laycock overdrive system" or as it may have been known the "laycock de normanville electric overdrive".
i know it was used in many sports cars in the 1950's like jag;s ferrari and aston martin.
If anyone out there knows any info about this system or knows a site where i can find this system,then could they pls let me know as this will be of great help to me on university project.cheers.

Volvo also used them on most(if not all) models during the 70s and 80s.

A pedantic gearbox builder for funny old British cars of my family's acquaintance insists that Laycock de Normanville overdrives shouldn't ever be called electric overdrives, as they are actually hydraulically actuated and electrically switched. 30 cursory seconds worth of Googling produced this handy explanation from a Triumph owner:
