I like that picture Simon. I think it's the 1965 International Trophy meeting at Silverstone, Roy in the Chequered Flag Brabham leading eventual winner Piers Courage in the Charles Lucas car.

Tim Schenken (far right) . . .
Good call, although I'm not sure the "far right" was required

Here's another pic of the tall American. This was in 1970 (BOAC 1000kms) when he drove a Porsche 910 with Paul Vestey. I think the car was Bill Bradley's not Vestey's ?
In the background is Mike Beuttler.

Thank you. Roy was thought of as among the best in the screamer era. He was very honest about why he didn't get into Formula One which is where he wanted to be.

The lady on Roy's right was Penthouse Pet of the year (?) 1970 and the prize for being fastest in practice at Brands for an F3 race -not sure what date ? Motor Show time- was a date with the lady in question-hence the picture taken at the Motor Show.
I understand in deference to the sainted Mrs Pike Roy passed.
How woke is that!!

He certainly was, and won plenty of races. The year after that 1965 photo was taken he had joined Piers in the Charles Lucas stable. I think Chris Irwin had the Chequered Flag drive in 1966.
Nice BOAC photo Targa. Must be the practice day, given the pleasant sunshine! Interesting that Roy and Mike, both top F3 racers in their day, were doing battle in different Porsche 910s.

Friday practice, thanks, it might have been free admission as well. Just dug out the programme and timing sheets and see that the Pike/Vestey car was to be the slowest of the three 910s entered. Mike Beuttler was sharing with Nick Gold in the race but I notice that Gordon Spice practiced the car as well but didn't race it although he set/equalled the grid time. They were all beaten by the 910 of John L'Amie and Tommy Reid (remember him). Happy days.

Hello TNF members.
I had a phone conversation with Roy Pike this morning Tuesday 18 April 2023.
Roy has advised me that he has little interest in social events per se and therefore it would not be possible for him to give an informal guest speaker talk at Club LOTUS Avon Area.
Roy added that in the main he would not be interested in any other events either, therefore I think it is best that we respect Roy's wishes.

Entirely understandable, and if you get the chance (and if you think it appropriate), it would be good to convey to Roy Pike that there are still members of that anonymous crowd he used to drive past who recall enjoying and admiring his efforts behind the wheel.

Yes. I would be one of the anonymous crowd you mention, having seen Roy race on many occasions.
Here is grainy picture that appeared in the Autosport report for the September meet at Crystal Palace in 1963. Roy pipped Brian Hart to the line by a fraction of a second in the Gemini.
