Enzo Ferrari was once quoted as saying the Ferrari 312 T4 was the worst looking car to ever bear his name. (Just wait until the saw the T5  )

Do you agree with that? What do you think is the worst? I always thought the 73 Ferrari was extremely ugly, and rather uneffective. And I never was too fond of the Ferrari 333 SP (though that isn't "really" a Ferrari is it?).

What do you think?

I always thought (and still do) that 312 T4 was a nice looking car... still, it could be connected with Gilles.
I don't think Ferrari ever made an ugly car (racing or street), at least compared with beasts like Eiffelland or Token... But taken this to side, I'd say probably very early 1974 (first race), or maybe even the 412 T2 of 1995. Nothing else comes to mind.

I will grant you the Eiffelland! But IIRC the Token was quite a neat little car? As for Ferraris, well, I reckon the T4 and T5 were somewhat aesthetically challenged as was the 312T of Lauda vintage.

Ferrari have definitely made some duds in their day, like every other manufacturer. Just putting a Prancing Horse on a car doesn't automatically make it beautiful! Some of the older road cars were a bit doubtful (I am no Ferrari expert but wasn't there the Superamerica or something that looked more like a Christmas cake than a car?)

On the other hand, of course, at their best, Ferrari have made some real stunners for both road and track.

In my opinion the cycle wing 125S # 02C from 1947 should bear this title ....

As a desperate old anorak! I have this idea that a single seater racing car should have all its bits integral with its bodywork; so, anything with wings hung out front, suspended above or hanging below the actual nose of the car is, in my eyes, UGLY BEYOND REASON!

So, the last 5 or 6 years of Ferraris (plus all other current F1 cars), as well as the 312T series, fall into that category).

Sadly, it's rather a long list! :(

Anything with that bloody fake Ferrari red, example this year's Ferrari.

Have they forgot the colour of Ferrari red? :(

where was that picture taken Muller?

and what about the best looking?

for me were the sharknose, the ducknose and the D50 ( not really a ferrari but i think it counts)

I'm with Michael all the way on the 125S, but of more modern designs, I reckon the 126C3 and 126C4 were pretty ugly, with enormous rear wings that look like an afterthought and the driver too far forward - totally wrong proportions.

rob_g, i agree with the F310... except the one with the raised nose was even worse (from canada on schu's car, and on both cars afterwards i believe)

i also do abhor that orange livery the team is currently sporting. enough already! give us some real red! and i never really liked the 312 T4 - 5 of 79-80. looks like a pancake with ground effect.

on the other hand, i like the 66 and 67 312, the 246 dino (mike hawthorn's title car yes?), the 126C2 (even after it ended the careers of 2 of my favorite drivers. sad 1982!), and wierly enough the dashing 412T2 from 1995.

cheers, jmp85

Just about the red on the current Ferrari F1 cars, it's that shade because of Marlboro. I think the shade has also changed since it was first introduced at the start of 1997.

I actually like the colour, I just don't believe that the Ferraris should be painted with it :)

And for my bet, I think one of the worst looking cars was the 1967 Cooper F1 cars, the one with the short nose. Perhaps not the worst, but it's up there.

To all people speaking against current Ferrari F1 red colour:
have you seen any of recent Ferraris in live?
This is one of most stunning and eye-pleasing colours I ever saw!
If you take a look at Ferrari sports and F1 cars displayed in Ferrari museum, you'll find all shades of red. In the early days, Ferrari competition cars were simply painted in "available red" not some particular shade. Remember that first Ferrari cars, 125Ss, were painted dark red!

To Mindprobe:
All my archived photos in the file name include "make-type-car-driver-place-year", so right click on the pic and "properties".

Best looking? in my opinion P3/P4.

Well, for me, the post Monaco '69 F1 Ferrari was ugly as sin!!! Especially when you consider what came before it. The "sharknose," 512, the '67 312, etc. And that's just the F1 end of things!!!

Didn't Lauda / Regga test a derivative of the 312T in early 76 that had a nose like a shovel off a JCB digger ? That was seriously ugly.

There was a period where Ferrari did not build their own chassis. But, I believe that the car you are talking about was a "muleta" of the most serious order. It certainly didn't look like a Ferrari.

It's a good thing we can discuss taste! I actually like the original Eifelland but find the Token absolutely hideous...

I'm with Rob's F310 pick - that's easily the ugliest Ferrari of the 90s - and would choose the 1973 car for the 70s and the 126CK 'truck' for the 80s. I thought the T4 looked rather neat and purposeful.

Was it the 1993 Ferrari that had an ugly white band below the airbox? I don't think that did anything to enhance the cars appearance.

That would be the 1993 Ferrari. It had something to do with the Italian flag, but in reality, it just made them look like the Dallaras from 1989-1991.

The color on the Ferrari did change in 1997, to Marlboro red, or depending on how you look at it, orange. The Ferrari appeared on the Racer Mag a while back, on the cover, and from that view it CERTAINLY looked orange.

I believe that white band on 1993 F93A was as a reminder of their glorious times 1975-78. Italian flag was also there (though very small) on 412T1 of 1994.

Yes the F310 was horrendous...

Of the more recent streetcars, I never liked the the 'F50' much.
It seemed unfinished somehow, the front never matched the rear.

What about 1988 Indy Ferrari?? I saw some pictures of it, it's even worse than 126 C4...

Agree, it looks orange at angles, especially when they had it at its release under lights. :(

Yeah, I never liked the F50 either, I prefer the F40. Just hope that the new Super Ferrari FX/F60 doesn't continue the F50's styling cues too much!

The F50 wins my vote too.
This angle is even worse. How do you say "batmobile" in Italian?
Jeez, it doesn't even look Italian...without the badges I'd swear
it was Hyundai's attempt at a supercar:lol:

In my book the most beautiful Ferrari is the Gustav Brunner designed Ferrari F1-87 and the slightly modified F1-87/88C from 1987 and 1988. Stunning! I would go so far as to say it is best looking F1 car ever! I also think the 126C2 of '82 was very good looking. As for the ugliest, I would have to say the 1998 Ferrari with the lowish sidepods, it made the driver look as if he was sitting so high compared to the low, sleek looking '98 McLaren.
