I'm interested in your collection of Formula One (or other raceseries) modelcars. I really don't have that much F1 models, to be honest with you I only have two Mclarens, one with West Livery
I would also like to know if there are people who know how to make dioramas (don't know if that word exists in English : ) For example dioramas like these two
They're both Minichamps 1:43 scale, it's really hard to get a good result. Everything else is made by hand, the tyrewall is cut from a gardenhose, the tarmac is made from rough black paper.
My (modest) collection
-Minichamps mp4-16 West Mclaren Mercedes Mika Hakkinen 1:18 West Livery
-Hotwheels mp4-15 Team Mclaren Mercedes Mika Hakkinen 1:18 Mika Livery

Minichamps (mostly 1:43)
A little note: they seems to be improving on different details in the past 2-3 seasons such as the drivers' decals and the rear view mirror since I guess Hotwheel now becomes kind of their competitor (Recently I purchased some Tobacco decals on the net for my Hotwheel F2000 and F2001, and they turn out much nicer )
Exoto (only in 1:18): the Lotus 72, Ferrari 312T4, Tyrell P34... which I think is the best model/diecast manufacture around... featuring photo-etched pieces and cloth material (seat belt) and I always love their ways of sculpting the driver (with see through/ working visor)...
Some other makers in the past also were very good: the Eidai Grip Technica from the 70s which features metallic wheel hubs, they have almost all the grid of F1 cars from the '77 season: I have 7 of them but still not able to find the 312T2...
The other labels I can only consider average: Quartzo (their details are good, however somhow affected by the poor QC and material in the production), Polistil, Bburago, Yaxon, Corgi...etc but some of these are more like Toy company so you can't compain too much, I suppose

In my collection:
BBR Serie Oro Williams FW16 Renault, GP Brasile 1994, A. Senna - D. Hill No. 2. 1/43
Very nice with tobbaco decals.
BBR Serie Oro Ferrari 412 T1, GP Brasile 1994, J. Alesi 1/43
Very nice model with the airplane kind air intakes. The most beautiful F1 model Ferrari has ever built. Not that good on the track either.
Paul's Model Art, Michael Schumacher Collection, 1/12 Ferrari F310 1996
In my opinion BBR Models are uniquely the best 1/43 brand out there. Their precision and attention to detail are amazing. The paint work on the models is in my opinion better than my Porsche's job.

After the New Year comes I'm going to try and get the big Tamiya 1991 McLaren F1 car. I read that at one time it was going for up to $500.00 in Japan. I would love to see them do James Hunt Mclaren from 1976. As for dicast, I have a 2001 1/18 Jaguar and 1/18 Montoya Williams.

Recently I have discovered the delights of Tameo 1:43, the variety of kits produced in this scale are incredible, and the detail is quite breathtaking on such small cars.

Anyway, dioramas are fun and relatively easy to build. The structures--buildings, fences, etc.--are usually scratch-built (homemade) from stryrene sheet and tube. The ground features--tarmac, grass--are usually made using railroad modeling materials, such as RR ballast for tarmac and grass for grass! The hardest part are the figures, which require careful use of color and good dry-brushing technique.
There are a lot of good books on diorama building and figure painting available. Check your local modeling shop.

Which one is more detailed? 'Cause the McLaren sell for $169 and the Williams for "only" $130.

They didn't put the driver's name on the cars did they?

Yes they did put the drivers names on the sidepods, rear and frontwing and on the helmets. It just says David on David's car and Mika on Mika's car (see photo's French GP) The reason why they do not apply tabacco and alcohol sponsor is because of the law. It's forbidden on one way or another. You can get tabacco sponsoring on your car by buying stickers or by buying a very expensive modelcar. So I got the West Mclaren Mercedes mp4/16 for 170 Dutch guilders while the non-tabacco version costs 130 Dutch guilders.

Williams FW18 1996 (Tameo)
old kits (built 10 or so years ago) :
Williams FW11 1987 (Tamiya) - 1/20
Ferrari F189 (Tamiya) - 1/20
Lotus 99T (Tamiya) - 1/20
McLaren MP4/4 (Tamiya) - 1/20
Lotus 72D (Tamiya) - 1/12
(There are 1/12 1970 Ferrari 312B and 1/20 1998 McLaren MP4-13 Japanese Grand Prix by Tamiya waiting in the box but it seems I abandoned plastic models because I cannot make myself build any for many years now so it's questionable whether I'd ever build them. I find work with metal much more pleasant.)
currently building:
Lancia-Ferrari D50A Reims streamliner 1956 (Provence Moulage)
Ferrari F310 1996 (BBR)
Ferrari F300 1998 (BBR) - slightly on hold
Ferrari 312T 1975 (Tenariv)
Lotus 72E 1974 (SRC) - slightly on hold
waiting their turn in the boxes:
Brabham BT55 1986 (Tameo)
Benetton B190 1990 (Tameo)
Lotus 72D 1972 (SRC)
Lotus 72C 1970 (AMD) - 1/20 kit, somewhat below expectations
Brabham BT52 1983 (Hi-Fi)
die-casts:
Renault GP 1907 (Brumm)
Ferrari 125S 1947 (Brumm)
Ferrari 126C2 1982 (Brumm)
Tenariv Ferrari 312T is going through particularly strong modifications currently :-)
It may be noted that I'm mostly inclined to building Ferraris and, to a lesser extent, Lotuses (particularly type 72), that I have little interest in McLarens (maybe I'll build a M23 or MP4/2 one day) and not much more in Williamses (although I plan some in the future) and no interest at all in midfield or backmarker teams.
My goal is to build all the Ferraris (everyone who has visited Galleria Ferrari in Maranello must have noted a table with all F1 Ferraris in 1/43 scale displayed), other kits are here just to break the monotony :-))
As I see that my post with pics on Farzad's F1 Gallery is not available any more, I'll set up a new page with many new pics.
