GT3 = OVERRATED!!

Before I get lynched let me qualify my opinion.
WHAT'S DIFFERENT? Aside from the visuals, pretty much nothing. I loved GT1 and GT2, but hell, GT3 should have been way better than those two games ( new hardware ) instead, it's the same old same old. Even the 95% of the tracks are the same! Look at the woefull AI. The opponent cars still stick to their line come hell or high water, and will still ride straight into the back of you if you're in the way. In short, I feel like Mr. Invisible on the track. Hardly next - gen stuff. Oh yes, them pitting on the 14th lap of a 15 lap race is just killer too. Yes it's terribly stupid isn't it?
Not only that, but the racing is not very competitive either. On the endurance races I can scream coz I'm usually at least 2 laps ahead of the next guy. The racing is actually about as exiting as watching paint dry. In my view, GT3 is a car collection game rather than any sort of "real driving simulator" and the developers are just rehashing an old formula for a quick cash - in. I woulden't even mind that, but when I see this game getting perfect scores in magazines it makes me laugh.
I'm not here to bash a game for bashing's sake, but GT3 has obvious faults that it seems only I can detect.
By the way, what's with the new anti skid devices on all the cars? What's with that?

What makes you think that you're the only one??? I certainly don't think its a perfect game, but as you rightly say, it's more a car collecting game than anything else. I personally enjoy the licences, the TT's, and Free Runs more than anything else. I think the racing is rather dull, that's why I'd rather play WRC, where it's you VS the track. You have to start on normal mode and once you complete that you get a hard mode, but the game keeps you on your toes because you couldn't possibly memorize all the tracks, so it's always a surprise. 14 different rallies each with 5 stages = 70 different tracks ranging from gravel, tarmac and snow during the day and night with great in-car and chase viewpoints. The cars take damage (limited), get dirty throughout the stage and it just tremendous fun. Not to mention that there's an online competition starting from next week on the Official Site which unlocks extra bonus stages.....anyway, if you don't have it, check it out!!!

This is a racing simulator forum and as far as I'm concerned all sorts of racing sims are allowed to be discussed. From a gp500 to a world sport cars to a f1 sim.

Yes you think so, but is there better racing game for PS2?...I think not (yet).
You were saying endurance races are boring because you win the second best by margin 2 laps.
Why don't you race with slower car?
You didn't mention 'why doesn't cars get damaged', but you thinks so? Am I right?
The answer is simple: GT games has so meny official cars with trademarks and someones of them doesn't allow to use their 'cars' messy or damaged, so cars are 'unbreakable'.
About tracks you are right, but sure current tracks are more better made than tracks in GT1 and 2.
The game ain't perfect but is currently one of the best you can get for PS2.

Then go faster!
Yeah the only reason to drive races is to get all the cars, so you can race against your own or others lap times.
One of the other nice things about GT3, is the pressure sensetive buttons, if you don't have a wheel. Learn to use them, and you will get mutch better control, than you got in GT1 and 2.
And the grafic is mutch better.

Probably some great fun for a while (if on get the hang of the controller device), but i feel that it is a bit short lived (yes i know there are many cars, mods and so on, but still). But these are just first impressions from a 10min play, so don't lay too much into it

BD how does this sound?
1) Tyre wear is a joke. No two laps are ever the same because the tyres wear so fast. Utterly IN****ingSANE.
2) Unpredictable pitting. Lap 14 of 15?? Yeah .... not at all .. yeah again. So ****ign stupid.
3) ALL the cars understeer and lack grip. IN****IGNSANE. Maybe because the tyre wear is so poor even on hards .. they just understeer everywhere.
4) It takes AN ABSOLUTE AGE to complete a series like a CC in pro mode. Who the the feck has 2 1/2 hrs to kill every time they sit down.
5) Point 4 is further agitating because the SAVE option doesn't save series points

6) The MAD decision to boost power on full race cars yet "drop" their standard power. I ****ign know for sure a GTR Skyline is 650+ HP in race trim in the Japan GTC ... yet it's RWD and 400 odd HP in the game

7) Cars that are unequally matched ... so often one car is SOOOOOOO much faster than the rest that the racing is BORING. Like the Beetle in the FWD CC

8) AI cars are just totally moronic. They stick to their line and hit you ALL the time.
Crap game ... looks fantastic but the rest is total crap.

Actually you can save series points, but you must continue from that series when you reload.Originally posted by Alfisti

Altisti,
your points are true and make me laugh all the same
I can't remember who said it but, the cars do take damage. You have to turn on that option. But, beware if you hit a fly, the car will not want to move.
I have GT1, GT2, and GT3. I will not go near Gt3 1/2 that new crap thing is all about taking your hard earned. But If Gt4 comes out and it's better and Sony doesn't put it out for PS3 only, I'll get it.

I was the same, I played it for about 2 weeks then sold my PS2 - I realised the game and system as a whole was a waste of money. I'll stick to my PC.
Love the rice boy call - sums up the game really.

You sold your PS2?
I think you miss all the humour of Grand Theft Auto III. What a lovely game.

as for Gran Turismo 3, well hmmm... it does exactly what it says on the box but as with GT2, when you've got about 12 squillion quid and a used car lot full of souped up motors, what then..? Game over

It still makes me laugh that you got rid of PS2 just because you didn't like GT3.
I admire it but, it's funny.
By the way. I'm now playing Ace Combat 4 and it's a great fighter game. Have you tried it?
I don't like putting games on my pc.

even w/ F1-2002 you have problems with fuel consumption and unrealistic racing lines-
e.g. you don't conserve gas by staying in the draft of another player-
the wet line is the same as the dry line... what's the point in adding in weather effects if they aren't going to simulate it realistically?
and i still get cars nailing me b/c i take a different line than the AI cars do.
but as a "GAME" both GT3 and F1-2002 does a decent job.

GT3 is a fine game - GAME GAME GAME. I enjoyed it, I didn't like some of its flaws but its the best console racer out there until GT4 and maybe, just maybe, PGR2.

the GTx series is to PS/PS2 what the GPx series is to the PC

I used to race radio controlled cars so I use the sticks the wrong way round (left for power & right for turning). Its much better than the buttons.
I only play it on my mates PS2 after several beers, I usually end up winnign once I get used to the understeer.

When I last played (before my ps2 self-destructed) I was generally 1-2 seconds off the pace even though I could easily beat the game AI.
The physics of GT3 are decent enough to learn the difference a good line and proper braking/acceleration makes.

BUT... What makes GT3 one of the best racing games EVER is how it plays. If you guys have only played the game with a pad... Well, you haven't played it all. The game really requires a decent gaming wheel, such as Momo Force (I got the red old one). Then game is simply FANTASTIC to play... Momo senses every little bump on the track, every little movement, and turns... You have to experience it by yourself. Decent gaming wheel puts GT3 to another dimession and you will be asking yourself how you even bothered to play the game with a pad... Pad simply ruins the whole gaming experience.
When playing the game with decent gaming wheel, no other racing game comes even close to GT3 when talking about how real driving feels. For eg. Formula league was simply awesome to play. Once you get to the limit and find a decent race setup, you are hooked to the game and to it's speed.
I only hope that the mistakes in GT3 will be fixed to GT4. Then the game is simply perfect .

In GT3, adjusting your car makes lot of difference...

So, you're saying that GT2 is better than GT3? I found PC games more to my liking, so I never got a PS2. But, it's surprising to hear that GT3 wasn't an improvement over GT2.Originally posted by Alfisti

I have only a few issues with GT3 mostly around the relatively primitive multi-player section of the game.
Also, things outside it's control like being able to include Porsches and Ferraris but as I said there's nothing they can do about that.

the problem I have, is not being able to put on the spunky ricerice racing modifications...
dammit.... downforce would be nice....
