Now, my question is, does anyone know the whereabouts of th ecar now? I'm afraid the ad doesn't give a chassis number, BUT it does list the car as 'Lotus 78 JPS 16', would that mean chassis 16?? I presume it's still around, and maybe back in its' original JPS livery??
PS. the ad finishes with the final line of 'would make an ideal car for conversion to Can-Am.'
I hope not!!!

Seems like Rebaque used three different chassis. JPS15/16/18.
JPS16 was used by by Ronnie for the '78 SA win.

Although not directly about Rebaque's 79, this thread will give some pointers I think:

78/1 is owned by Pietro Ratti in Italy.
78/2 is now in the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu (it belongs to Imperial Tobacco)
78/4 was with Steve Hitchins a few years ago - not sure if he still has it.
Lotus later built a replica of 78/3, the Peterson crash car.

This car was raced in 2001 by Mauro Pane (which isn't to say it's not still owned by Ratti?)Originally posted by Allen Brown

Rebaque had all the surviving Lotus 78s:

I was at Beaulieu last Friday and was delighted to see Lotus 49 R3 restored to health and on display.

However, possibly one of the most important F1 cars of the modern era, Lotus 78/2 (or JPS16 if you prefer) is still suspended from the rafters with a minimal and miniscule caption far below it on the ground (next to a March Indycar). This car came to Beaulieu directly from a rebuild by Ian Dawson at Grid in Leamington Spa having been purchased by Imperial Tobacco specifically for display at Beaulieu. You can see it slightly better from the motorcycle gallery, dust and al. Perhaps it's time that the treatment and presenattion of motorsport in the NMM deserves a bit of a rethink.

^ Well that tops me, but I did get to see Hector run it at The Glen in '78. Understandably it's been put back to JPS colors, but IMHO the brown certainly looked nice and didn't do a disservice to the car's beauty. Was this the last car to run as a Lotus independent in a GP?
