Well, not a very big feat, but I'm current WR holder on Grenzlandring in '65... I caught a slipstream during the race and am 0.5 sec faster than the next guy (total of six submitted times ;))... Admittedly, I would've been faster than him anyway, but only by 0.25 sec (which I have run w/o slipstream).

Hehe - I've got a few WRs at the moment - I don't expect them to last. We are doing a short track comp at the moment and it seems every track one of us beats the record. So far I've set about 10 but most have been taken back again not long after. All I'm left with is:

After a long time away from GPLing I got back behind the wheel the other day. Did some laps on the Silverstone circuit, in a lotus. New PB 1.26.634 and new handicap -45.111. There's still some time left in the car.

its funny how GPL, for me atleast, is one of those games i need to take breaks from occasionaly, knowing when i come back i make some progress.

admittedly ive had a huge break from the game....2 years basically, due to PC swaps and busted wheels and a hardcore fixation on the NASCAR series, but ive come back home....

found a post i made just before i chucked GPL in, in 2002.

Nice going mate.

I wish I could say the same thing about a break giving me faster times. I haven't played seriously for about a year and the last time I tried I couldn't get a lap completed! I think it's actually fairly hard when you have played the game a lot and really reached your limit to then come back. I got to -65 eventually but it's too frustrating to drive now and find myself 2 or 3 seconds off the pace. If you can knock that much time off your rank then you can go a hell of a lot faster still!

well, a good 5 months or so since i got the wheel, and i'm still shite at it

At kyalami i manage a few high 1.20.xxs and thats about 2 sec off where i should be... at monza its the same story, managed a few 1.28.9x, and should be atleast a sec faster. At the glen its even worse considering its a smaler lap...

Still, the driving is pretty intense with the wheel, and i do think the feel is better, only that my learned instincts from driving with a joystick doesn't match the wheel and pedal movements.

Also, i cant really make up my mind on the FF settings. Somehow, i want a very light wheel for quick "adjustments" during cornering. But on the straights i want a bit heavy steering to keep it straight. Same with the "sensetivity" setting. In corners i want a really sensitive wheel (probably after driving with the joystick and having very little travle from opposite to oppisite), but on the straights i want less sensitivity.

some more pracitce would probably solve all this, but finding the time isn't allways easy

I always went for a very light feel in GPL - much lighter than in other games such as GTR and LFS. I don't know why but I've always felt more comfortable that way.

I have mine adjusted that way also.
But its mostly because the clamping system on the MS-FF sidewinder is so poor, the wheel slides all over the desk with a high FF setting and a twisty track...

I'm looking for a league, races should be around 30min long with mostly original tracks. Any ideas?

Been errrrr ages since I last posted here

I'm now finding it really hard to break PB's, and really just cannot be bothered with tracks like Nurburgring, Mexico and Mosport. Just no fun for me and my driving style

Been using the Eagle mostly recently, have managed some reasonable times:

Watkins Glen: 1.04.13
Monza: 1.27.03
Silverstone: 1.25.95
Nurburgring: 8.08.xx (with a sort of half spin type moment)

I'm around -50 on the GPL Rank, but it was much more fun racing and beating your best time, now it's no so fun as I've just about reached my limit.

That's a shame, I saw it too late. I signed up for UKGPL, they put me in Masters class among hot shoes. First race for me tomorrow.

Well, after all sorts of trouble with my comp, I did some driving during past few days. I've started using 'normal' (2.5") setups*, but still drive with wheel and joystick (which is a reason for having very sore elbow and wrist on my left hand). ALso, I've decided to give lesser cars (B.R.M., Honda and Ferrari) a go. Here are my times thus far:

Yesterday I did a 1.20.334 in Mosport nad today 1.19.098 in Kyalami. This gets me to -50.324 handicap. I am on a -60 mission now. Yeah!

One of the problems I find with GPL rank is that there is no constant.

Some use joysticks, some use game pads, some wheels.

It really isn't equal footing, is it ??

BTW, I still drive GPL at least once a week !!

I drive it from time to time (not nearly quite as often as I'd like to)- still need to sort out Mexico, Monaco and Ring times to get a good rank (am at about -36), but am currently offline as well... :

When I sort out the Rank (-45-50), I'll consider switching to full alien setups (GH2 and stuff).

I tried that, but those diffs are still a bit too much for me to handle. I started to modify GH1 setups, and found out it helps a lot if I move brake bias to just 50 or 51%.

My rank is now at -50.958.

I'm still playing every now and then.

Thought I'd post as I'm now down to 1.54.00 flat at Rouen, which is pretty good for me. Previous best was mid 1.54's and not at all consistant.

Rank is about -50 but haven't updated for a while.
