Poor Nick. I bet he has been wondering this on his lonely nights during test ban. In ITV-F1 he sais he still can't understand why they took Kimi before himself.
Quote from Nick:
"I thought I'd get the drive because I'd tested the McLaren for three seasons from 97 to 99 and then I won the Formula 3000 championship the following year."

and F3000 championship few years back should be a guarantee to get a McLaren seat? Maybe Nick forgets that despite his strong performace on Sauber last year, he had more or less a bad year at Prost before that and I am sure that everyone hasn't forgot that yet. He should get over his bitter thoughts and concentrate to do his best to get that McLaren seat someday.

Other bitter men, Fisichella, Villeneuve and Trulli hasn't talked about this that long, even though they all tried to get the seat also, I think.

Choosing Kimi is understandable considering the Ferarri interest.

But Sauber ain't bad man! McLaren have definate interest in him and he'll have to be patient and perform at Sauber.

I feel sorry for Wurtz who could have been at Toyota no, but stalled because he thought he may get the Mac seat and ended up without a drive -just testing with little possiblity that he will geta racing seat again... yet he doesn't whine about it!

I have a feeling that "poor Nick" might have the last laugh...

For all it's worth, I can't see Kimi having a great season at McL, we'll see.

The prost year wasnt to bad considering the car he drove. IT broke down all the time and they did very litle testing ( and alesi prolly did most of it ). So as a new kid to F1 he didnt do many laps in race or testing.

There is still a chance that Hedfield qualifies in front of Raikkonen this season. ;) I know that McLaren should be superior but Sauber with those Ferrari engines, and the problems in those Mercedes engines, who knows.

"Nick STILL doesn't understand why McLaren chose Raikkonen".

Nor do I. It was a complete illogical decision, something rare for McLaren. They fell for the Kimi-hype and Ferrari bluffing instead of looking long and hard at the actual results (or lack of them in the case of Kimi).

Still, after Nick blows away Massa this year and Coulthard shows us that Kimi is not so hot either, there will be another vacancy at McLaren and Nicjk will finally reach his true home!

McLaren-Mercedes scored 30 points in 1995. With DC/KR as their drivers, the 2nd shake up at Ilmor in the past 8 months, and Sauber flying on Bridgestones, who knows what is possible? :stoned:

WAKE UP NICK!

Dennis was far more concerned about Ferrari getting their hands on KR than he will EVER be about advancing your career. The only reason Dennis permited the Sauber signing of NH was so that he could gather intelligence on Ferrari engines. Now he doesn't even need you for that!

You're a patsy in a much larger game, Nick. Run while there's still time.

Scud, I think you mean "patsy," not "pasty." Pasties are the things go-go girls wear over their nipples.

I really don't want to hear Nick Heidfeld's complaints. Like some others here, I believe he'll get his chance - and is already getting a damn good chance with Sauber, I might add. I liked Nick last year for his quiet focus on performance and consistent delivery of results, but I'm starting to wonder.....

Regarding KR: I'm wondering if he'll have a "sophomore slump" the way some people suggest. It's happened to other drivers (i.e. Button). It's happened to rock bands too (second album so often sux)!

But somehow I expect better from Kimi.....

 Oops. Tirades lose their effect when you misspell key words.

Yep, JV, JT, GF, RB (spotted around Mac motorhome after A1 in 01 :) ) have all been dumbstruck by being overlooked in favor of KR. :)

Personally I think NH should shut up about this by now. He could mention it around the end of 01, but now he is just making himself look stupid. Though again it could be that he doesn't really even talk about it, but that the press are milking him just like Massa. But even so he should just tell the journalists to stuff it! I doubt RD will be too impressed about this constant whining. :( Still, hope to see Nick in silver overalls in the future

Do you belive they would still choose Raikkonen if they hadnt anoption on Nik?

In Britain a "pasty" is a semicircular pastry containing minced meat and potatoes - sort of like an empanada. Now I know that girls wear them over their nipples, I may not be able to face one again....

Absolutely. The fact that they do have an option on NH is merely one less thing to worry about. Once the rumblings of "how Ferrari had first call on KR because he drove a Sauber" started going around once KR started showing his mettle, Ronnie went straight for him. If Ronnie holds NH's leash, Ferrari would never touch him. Kimi on the other hand was for the taking.

Ron is someone who has traditionally held "loyalty" next to godliness, and the fact that he opted for KR over NH - who has been loyal to MB and has done everything according to their "big picture" - demonstrates, to me at least, how much Ronnie wanted Kimi. Or, more accurately, how much Ronnie didn't want Ferrari to have Kimi.

Where is the big deal here? Nick is under contract to McLaren Mercedes throughout 2003, therefore there was no reason for them to pounce on him when Kimi was a star in the making and available. Nick will join him at McLaren for 2003 . . .

Exactly. Mclaren allready have Heidfeld, he's just not driving the team car. If you farm your contracted drivers out, and put the non-contracted drivers in your team, you'll cover half the grid

Bwahahahahahaaa! :rotfl: Nick is a great driver and all, and might still be a tiny bit faster then KR, but to say that Mclaren was wrong to opt for the potential that KR has showed is truly moronic...

I must confess to be getting pretty tired of Nick's ranting  .

Yes, he has a right to be pissed, after all, he DID do better than Raikkonen, in points, placings and qualifying. In the end, that must be the criteria for "greatness"!

Was he more impressive than rookie Raikkonen? That remains to be debated.....

But except for a little whimper ("I am disappointed Mercedes did not tell me they were thinking of Kimi") he has not told Haug & Co to sod off!

Now that would have impressed me. If he felt that Dennis & Haug had messed him about, he should call their hand and tell them to sod off! And by breaking his ties with Mercedes, he would become available to other manufacturers such as Honda, Toyota and Ferrari.

At the moment, he's just a little boy, crying out because Mummy favors his sibling...

McLaren might turn into the Manchester United of Formula 1, buying drivers/personal just to rivals can't get their hands on them. :

Choosing Kimi is understandable considering the Ferrari interest.

Probably Mc Laren knows exacly why they didn´t sign Nick because he tested for
them during 3 seasons. If someone should know were Nick stands speedwise compaired
to their ordinary drivers it would be the guys at Mc Laren.
Of what I remember is that Panis was far more impressive than Heidfeld were during testing at
Mc Laren. And why didn´t they sign him?
Nick beat Kimi [points]but so did Ralf on Montoya and how many believes that Ralf has an brighter future than JPM?
And what am I hoping for -02? Massa beats Nick, not that I think it´ll happen too often though
