i know that Jenson Button and David Coulthard are near the 6ft mark, and i know that Alex Wurz is pretty tall as well, Takuma Sato is pretty short i heard

does anyone know the height (roughly) of all the drivers on the grid, coz its interesting to see how tall they are and stuff,
PS:- would 5"9 make a good height for a driver? (thats my height)

Search for the diminutive something thread from a few days ago, someone posted the heights of the drivers in there.

no way kimi is 180cm
jenson is 181 not 173cm
villeneuve is 165 not 168
trulli is taller than 167 cm also

Weird, Ralf nearly 2 inches taller than Michael. My mind seems to presume it's the other way round. Guess it's the age thing :)

What the hell are cm's?? DC is about 5' 11" from standing next to him. Wurz I know is 6' 2" or something which is why everyone hates trying to get him in a cockpit.

Eh seriously ? They're centimetres. 2.54 cm = 1 inch

5'11" = 71 inches = 71*2.54cm = 180.34cm

Well I know that, I just didn't know anybody measured height in cm's - well except in Europe (outside of UK). Always been a feet and inches man, always will be.

:rotfl: you know that the whole world should be using SI-units right ??
But it only shoes how slow countrys and people are.

Visit http://www.atlasf1.c...eatures/drivers - not only can you see the height and weight for all drivers there, but you can also sort the table by any of the variables (i.e., view the drivers in order of their height for one)

Ricardo - no offense, but the USA are the only country in the world that still uses inches.

In Canada: 1 US inch = 1.67 Canadian inches.

technically

cm are not SI units anyway!

it should be in M, like 1.83m =6ft
or even mm, 1830mm = 6ft

but never cm.

Centimeters are SI-units. Centimeter = one hundreth of a meter. Centemeter is not another unit, it is another way of expressing meters.

I have seen several pictures of the Schumacher brothers standing next to each other. And Ralf is taller than Michael.

At 168 cm, JPM seems kind of short so, since we're using SI Unites, wouldn't it be more flattering to say he's actually 1.68 Million Micrometers tall? :)

Centimetres are one hundredth of a metre (centi equates to hundred) not one tenth of a metre. At one tenth of a metre, 180cms = 18m, and that would present difficulties for cockpit design!

Centimetres are metric units of measurement, but they are not SI units. The SI unit of length is the metre, with larger and smaller values derived by multiplying or dividing by 10 to the power 3 (1000). Therefore SI units of length are the metre, the millimetre etc.

And if we are going to be really pedantic with each other, meters are something that you measure with (as in a gas or electricity meters), metres are units of measurement.

I wonder why there's only one Briton on the list -- Jenson Button -- and two Scots -- David Coulthard and Allan McNish. Should the list mention either three Brits or one Englishman and two Scots?

You are wrong. The SI unit of length is meter. milli, centi, micro, deci etc are just prefixes. The SI-system definates 20 prefixes to form decimal multiples and submultiples of SI units. Here´s the list:

10^24 yotta Y
10^21 zetta Z
10^18 exa E
10^15 peta P
10^12 tera T
10^9 giga G
10^6 mega M
10^3 kilo k
10^2 hecto h
10^1 deka da
10^-1 deci d
10^-2 centi c
10^-3 milli m
10^-6 micro µ
10^-9 nano n
10^-12 pico p
10^-15 femto f
10^-18 atto a
10^-21 zepto z
10^-24 yocto y

Diffuser - you are quite right - I had forgotten that from 10^-3 to 10^3 each increment was valid in SI units, and 10^3 increments / decrements only applied above and below this range.

The construction and civil engineering industry was one of the first to "Go Metric" in the UK, in the late 60s. It was decided that our units of length would be the millimetre and metre. Centimetre and decimetre were not acceptable within designs or for on site use. It was this that led to my incorrect statement earlier.

I remember a Hungarian born lecturer at college saying that the mm had no place in construction, and that the cm was a far more useful smallest unit of measurement for everyday use. He declared that the mm was for jewellers, not civil engineers.

interesting!
I too was under the impression that SI only worked in multiples of 10^3

i didnt know 10^1,-2, 2, -2 were the exceptions!

still, ive never heard anyone refer to deci, deka and hecto before...actually maybe hecto for pressure (hectopascals)

In engineering, FrankB is totally correct when he says that centimetre is an unacceptable unit...but it would be nice if this was not the case, since it is much more usefull then the mm IMO.
