I want to surprise my husband with tickets to the Canadian Grand Prix race. Can anyone tell me how to go about getting tickets? I looked at the Grand Prix Tours website, but the tours apparently do not include the actual tickets? What's up with that?
I'm new to F1 and don't even know if it's too late for 2002 and I should aim for 2003?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
rijana

Hello Rijana,
I suggest you visit their website at: www.grandprix.ca
There, you will find out all the information on tickets prices and seating availability. The last time I checked, they were plenty of tickets available for this year's event. You must hurry because they will go out quickly.
It all depends on much you want to spend for good seats...!

GP Tours does not sell tickets only (well they do if they have extra and it is real close to the event, but don't count on that. See their web site). What they do provide is a guarentee that you are going to have a place to stay, tickets (couple of events, evening) and pretty much a hassle free trip. We used them for Montreal last year (and 2 trips to Indy from Cinci (cheap option))
This year I got lucky and secured tickets early enough to get GS 24 and a room. You can find tickets from the GP Canada website http://www.grandprix.ca/frame_eng.html (though most of the good locations are probably gone. You can also see some of the ticket brokers Page and Moy (although a tour operator, sells tickets too) http://www.pageandmoy.com/ here are some others http://www.gpticketshop.com/ http://justtickets.co.uk/ note I have not used any of these. THough I know people who have used P&M and I've talked to GP Ticket shop. Also it will probably be difficult to secure a room at this time; difficult but not impossible if you work at it ;) Here are some links to conversations on the board about Montreal:

Probably the best locations for viewing are GS 11, 12, 15, 21, and 24. Though there are some good viewing in the Bronze areas from what I understand as they've added big screens. In order to get the seats in the areas above you will probably have to talk to a ticket broker at this point but go ahead and call the ticket office and see if they have anything left in 21, 15, or 24 (they are in the same area) I know there is nothing but singles (if that) in 11 ad 12.
Finally use the Search in the Forum area to locate more Montreal info, GP Tours, etc.

For a cheap but good place to stay, check out the dorm rooms for rent at McGill University:
http://www.residence....ca/summer.html
These are right downtown within walking distance of the city centre and to many Metro (subway) stations which will wisk you right to the track! You can also walk to Crescent street wich is the heart of the Montreal GP nightlife GP Weekend (not to mention home to the Atlas F1 headquarters!!;) )

I wentto the Grand Prixs official web site, and bought tickets through them. I faxed this in on Monday the 11th and have confirmation of my tickets on Wednesday the 13th, plus no service charges as I've seen on some of the ticket selleres sites (often $20 and up). This worked very well for me and as it is my first ever live Grand Prix am very excited.

I have been to Grands Prix throughout Europe, Australia and the United States but for some reason never to Canada. Last year I went and was sorry that I had not gone sooner. While it’s true General Admission doesn’t get you much I was able to score some Grandstand Tickets on Friday at face value for the entire weekend. The reason for these last minute purchases was that I was in Toronto for business and only decided to drive to Montreal that Thursday evening before the race. I had no trouble finding a hotel North of Montreal at a very reasonable rate.
This year was more of the same. While searching the WEB I found gpticketshop.com, the official ticket agency of the Hungarian GP. Don’t ask me why but I purchased Canadian GP tickets from them. They are based in Austria and offer tickets to many European events. Well after getting my tickets I used my frequent flyer miles to purchase a roundtrip ticket between San Jose, CA to Montreal for $11.00 then I reserved a room at the Montreal Hilton for $40 CAD a night (4 nights) using points I had with HHonors! All of those business trips do have a bright side!
