The Place the Points Competition is back for the third year! The purpose of this competition is to predict before the start of the season what the final WDC points scores will look like. This means you'll only have to post your bet once before the Australian GP and then you won't have to bother your brain anymore this year. Great, isn't it?

This is what you do:
Post a reply here with your bet on how the WDC final standings of this year will look; there are 442 (17*26) points to be distributed. It's actually pretty tricky to restrict yourself to 442 points, but then again you only have to do it once a year...

This is how points are scored:
For each point over 442 that you distribute, you'll be penalized one point. You gain one point in the competition for each F1-championship point that you've placed right, which means:
-If a driver has a higher final WDC score than the amount of points you've placed on him, you'll get as many points from this driver as you've placed on him.
-If the driver scores less than you've trusted him to do, you'll only get as many points as he has managed to score.

An example: if players A and B have placed 30 and 40 points respectively on Button and Button scores 36 points in the WDC, the players will score 30 and 36 points respectively for Button.

The competition is open for entries until around midnight Thursday the 28th of February, CET.

This is my prediction:

M Schumacher 98 points
Montoya 62
Coulthard 58
Barrichello 57
R Schumacher 56
Räikkönen 51
Fisichella 14
Heidfeld 12
Villeneuve 9
Panis 5
Button 5
Trulli 4
Sato 3
Massa 3
Frentzen 2
Irvine 1
de la Rosa 1
Salo 1
McNish 0
Bernoldi 0
Webber 0
Yoong 0

It's not necessary to post the drivers who you think will score 0 points, I just did it as a reminder of which drivers there are in F1 at the moment. If you think some driver will come in as a replacement during the season, it is of course OK to place points on him too.

Good luck!

Thanks for doing this again. You're going to have to give me a couple of weeks yet - as there is still too much up in the air.

fisichella_2001: That's just 433 points! You can add another nine points there without receiving a penalty :)

LeTurc: I'll interpret RedordDemolisher as Michael Schumacher. If he scores 166 points this year I'll eat my hat :)

MONTOYASPEED: Your points sum is 446 points, so you might want to take four points off that list in order not to get a little penalty :)

All the other posts seem to have come in neatly at 442 points so far. Keep them coming folks!

In my scenario:

- Ralf is cracking up after five dnf's in a row from Brazil to Monaco. After that Monty takes 3 wins (including Monza and Indy).
- Rubens refuses to let Michael pass in France. Rubens second, Michael third.
- Mclaren produces a very fast car that has some serious reliability problems. This leads to several dnf's in the summer.
- After Hockenheim David is secretly ordered to play second fiddle to Kimi. He's so pissed that he merely cruises thereafter.
- after Indy Kimi leads Michael 83-82, in Suzuka Kimi wins with Michael second. What a thriller! Rubens will need a new employee (remeber France...)

Jimmino, your points sum is 462, which would give you a 20 point penalty to start with. 442 would be better :)
