Does anyone knows where I could find more about the history of the Cosworth DFV ? I'm looking for the specs of the different Series (what was the differences between a 1971 Series 11 and a Series 10 for instance ?) and which F1 teams used them and when ? Also would like to know which engines builders maintained them (were companies like RES, mcLaren USA, Hart, Richardson, Mader, Alan Smith, etc... working for F1 teams, did all the teams do the job themselves or did Cosworth do it all ???). Are there any books or site on this subject ?
Thanks !

Autocar used to report DFV engine numbers in their reports about 1979-1982 period, as did some European magazines (Autosprint possibly). I didn't often see Autocar as it was of limited use, so I can't be exactly sure what period they did this.
Good luck with your project.

There was book called ''Such Sweet Thunder'' (?); I thought I had this, but can't find it - I think this was about Cosworth with emphasis on the DFV - anyone else have this and can put me right?

Yes 2F, Such Sweet Thunder was a book entirely about the design and development of the DFV from 66 to 70. I have a copy, and the index at the back contains a list of Cosworth successes up to 1970 and also lists the engine number of every DFV car that finished a GP in any of the first six places.
The book was written by John Blunsden, who also wrote ""The Power to Win" in 1983 which is an update on the Cosworth story.
Another book about Cosworth is "Cosworth - the Search for Power" by Graham Robson. This was first issued in 1990 and re-issued several times. My copy was issued in 1999, which means, I think, that it's the latest book on Cosworth.
Also, I just did a google search and found the Cosworth site!

Yes, but it lists only the race-winning DFVs. From 67 to 82. Actually, that's still a lot of data as the DFV did a lot winning!! Spread over 3 pages anyway...

V8 for victory Ford Cosworth 1977 (small booklet, lot of statistics)
The power to win (Ford Cosworth) John Blunsden 1983
Such sweet thunder John Blunsden/David Phipps (till 34th Cosworth GP win
Cosworth the search for power (4th ed) G. Robson
Ford moteur champion Pierre Gosse (1974)
The French book - 300 pages - has a list of ca. 170 enginenrs allocated to a owner.
I have no idea how accurate this survey is.
