:)

"Vocês nem imaginam o quanto eu estou trabalhando nesta pré-temporada, correndo, andando de bicicleta e treinando na academia. Sei que preciso melhorar minha forma física para tentar ganhar o campeonato”, afirmou. “Mas não tenho feito dieta. Aliás, acho que comi mais nestes últimos dias, já que gastei muita energia”, disse o canadense.

"You guys don't imagine how hard I am working out this pre-season, running, biking and working out at the gym. I know I have to get in shape to try to win the title. I hanven't been dieting, actually I think I ate too much these last few days, since I spent so much energy (in testing)"

WATCH OUT. Bumpyman Tracy is out, he's hungry :) and he will do anything to get there (except stop eating, of course).

Seriously, this is probably PT's last season. Team Green is investing all their hopes and money in Dario and Tracy, and if both fail to bring Barry the title, then they better pack and go to IRL too.
Actually what is Dario doing racing cars, and leaving that gorgeous wife of his at home alone? :D

Paul is a real character. He's so un-formula one I have to admire him. Kind of like imagining A. J. Foyt in F1. If people thought JPM was out of shape they would die over Paul. I can imagine some euro-fitness trainer saying, "no more french fries....no more french fries.....is that too much to ask". Paul would probably just burp in their face. Give him a well sorted car and he'd probably be competitive too.

In Dario's case I'd use the 900+ horsepower a CART car has to race home to Ashley. Forget the checkered flag.

An F1-level fit Paul Tracy would destroy CART, if for no other reason than they dont include driver weight in car weight over there

Paul Tracy isn't all that tall so he looks a bit more stout than he actually is.I've met him a number of times and the one thing that struck me was the size of his neck.It would be a respectable size for an NFL linebacker. Many of the times I've met him,it's been at the river, and in bathing togs he doesn't really strike me as 'fat',but just plain solid.

It's my recollection that 2001 was the first year on a five year extension that Paul signed with Team Cool Green. He will not be leaving, unless of course he decides to leave, which I do not think will be any time soon. He loves racing too much - even if he has a few spats with the rule-makers every now and again (i.e., Laguna Sega). But a fitter Paul can only help. I would love to see him win the title this year: he deserves to

I don't think she stays at home. Ashley was working the pit boards during qualifying at the last Vancouver race - providing quite a bit of distraction for fans and drivers alike.

And Tracy is not fat. I have met him in person several times and he is - as already mentioned - solid.

Slimmer Tracy built for speed
Feb. 9, 2002. 01:00 AM
CART driver looks to erase 2001 memories
Rick Matsumoto
sports reporter , Toronto Star

MONTEREY, Calif. — Auto racing fans tuning into the opening race of CART's 2002 season next month from Monterrey, Mexico, might have difficulty recognizing the driver stepping out of the No.26 Team KOOL Green car.

But make no mistake. The slim, trim individual under the chrome-domed helmet will be none other than Paul Tracy. While the 33-year-old Scarborough native will never be mistaken for jockey-sized Cristiano da Matta, a rigorous off-season cycling program has allowed him to shed 26 pounds and bring his weight down to a svelte 180 pounds.

And with that he's ready to put behind him a frustrating 2001 season which saw him get off to a promising start only to see it fizzle in the second half. His only two podium finishes came in the first and third races of the year. After that he had 12 results out of the top 10 and wound up finishing 14th in the championship derby.

Tracy maintains that it wasn't a lack of fitness that resulted in his disappointing year. But now he's looking for every edge that will help him become a legitimate contender for the 2002 drivers' crown. It's long been contended that Tracy, who is easily the heaviest driver on the CART circuit, has carried a handicap which could cost him as much as a tenth of a second per lap against a driver of equal ability who is 50 pounds lighter on some street or road courses.

While he worked out regularly at a gym, Tracy became frustrated with his inability to lose weight. Finally, he turned to cycling on the advice of fitness trainer Jim Leo. He also credits his girlfriend Somina McNeeledge, who is a fitness buff, with being a strong influence in helping him use cycling as a fitness tool.

"I've always gone to a gym and worked out, but it would get so frustrating because I'd work out for a week or two, lift weight and do some cardio work, but then I'd weigh myself and find out I'd gained five pounds. I'd build muscle.

"My body type is not like a lot of these other guys. They're built more like a jockey or a distance runner, long and lean. My build is more like a hockey player or a linebacker.

"My strength and endurance were never a problem. I've just been able to make myself physically smaller now.''

And he's confident it will help him return to the top of the CART rankings.

Way to go Paul, and good luck ! Now if he can find some exercises to help him keep the brain in gear on the track, he'll be fulfilling the hopes of we Canadians who have been watching and rooting for him for all these long years.

Is the jesting going on here about Paul Tracy's weight in comparison to other, so called, top drivers in the world?

Or is it actual jesting as if Paul Tracy were the largest man on the planet?

...because if it is the latter then this board must be filled with people that account for such a small amount of flesh that I can barely see them being classified as human :smoking:

tracys problem isnt his gut...

his problem is hes a loose cannon. when hes on hes really on, when hes off hes a danger to everyone.

needs more of the former and less of the latter over a season is all...

Last year Paul Tracy cut Dario off during one of the Canadian events just as the commentators patched into Dario's radio communications. Paul really slammed the door on him and Dario said, "What the F#ck was that?" on national television.

Needless to say the commentators quickly changed the subject....

I'm sure if Paul had been the one to use the "F" word on national television he would have been fined by CART AND THE FCC.

Of course Dario is married to a movie star so that makes it ok...... :drunk:

He's sometimes dangerous... I agree. But I have to admit the guy is amusing.

His crack (on national television) that CART would be better off if it were run by a circus clown was highly amusing and well worth the fine.

...the all 'merrican wing of the irl is gonna be in one helluva fix when he shows up in may.
From what I can tell from the various CART migrants to the irl,no one seems to have a problem making the switch.

Paul can be amazingly outspoken for a Canadian. I still laugh when I recall "Mario Andretti's Driving School for the Blind".

Except it was for Michael Andretti not Mario.
