From www.autoracing1.com/rumors.htm

Canadian CART promoter to do F1 race in Hong Kong UPDATE Let's not forget that it was Legault who got approvals to run both F1 and CART at his Montreal track. Can he do the same in Hong Kong? 2/8/02 - We hear that Norman Legault, the CART Canadian promoter, is close to signing a deal with Bernie Ecclestone to host a F1 race in Hong Kong.

I know it's "rumor",but there've a "STRONG" on the left of this part!
How reliable that site is?

Wow, I've been to Hong Kong, and I gotta say that they'd be hard pressed to find the land to successfully build a track there. Most of the unpopulated land is mountains, isn't it?

And I don't think they could run a street race there either!

Why not race on the abandoned Kai Tak airport?

Part of the Kai Tak area has been transformed to an indoor Kart racetrack (thats open to general public)... Though I am from Hong Kong myself I have to say its not likely to happen there. One of the reasons is that it is too close to residential area.

ps and I do find this speculation a bit unbelievable

AR1 is the WORST site for bullshit rumours. The person who runs the site is on a personal crusade to see CART race in China, and he prints all kinds of crap to further his agenda.

Check out the 'hot news' and 'rumour' section. You will see how biased this site is.

It's the biggest indoor kart track in the world, but it's a joke!!!
All "karts" are power by eletric and very slow! It's like playing bumper car in the amusement park more than driving a kart on the track!!!

The indoor kart track is located in the area of check-out counters of the old airport. So there are a lot of columns inside the track and the drivers couldnt see anything behind the corner - a complete joke.

About the F1 track , we have built an airport on an small island and now building a Disley. Therefore nothing is impossible.

Lung Ma Ching Sun (another Chinese New Year greetings :rotfl: )

   :rotfl:

A GP in Hong Kong would be amazing, or even better if they use the Macau track.
the popularity of the sport would go up alot.

Happy new year folks, have you walked the flower market? I'd love to see your firework
Wish you guys have a safe Horse year.

Well I'm Swiss, but live in Taiwan, so I'm defenatly wrong and it seems your version is the correct one. Learned BoPoMoFo here in Taiwan. Here they use different kind of Pinyin. Pinyin is good for English speaking people, but not for German speaking like me. So my Pinyin is as bad as it can be :stoned: Anyway wish you all the best for the New Year.

The only place for a circuit in Hong Kong would be on Lantau Island, where the new airport is and where Disneyland is going to be. That would elimamate the unique city-scape from any equation Kai Tak is not big enough nor is anywhere else close to the urban area on either side of the harbour.

The local economy here is in pretty awful shape and with very little local interest I cannot see the government being willing to fund/subsidise construction of a circuit.

I think there is no chance to have a F1 race in HK-China and there is every certainty that Shanghai-China will host China's first GP in 2004 or latest 2005.
