With the expected return of Maserati into racing in 2004 (or perhaps some toes in the water in 2003) what colors could we expect to see it run in? Thus far works sportscars of the last few years have been...

Mercedes - Silver (sponsored and unsponsored)
Porsche - Various liveries but an underlying white theme
Toyota - Primarily red with white trims
BMW - White
Audi - Silver Silver Silver
Bentley - Green
MG - Green and Black
Cadillac - Silvers and blacks
Dodge - Red (Reynard-Chrsyler was also red, though the Dallara-Chrsyler became a sort of blue and silver)

Just browsing various Maserati world sites there seems to be an underlying blue, but maybe thats just the webmasters fav :p

Also, anyone know Maserati technical partners? What kind of tires do Maserati's come out of the factory with, what brand of radios, who makes their semi-conductors. I think they recommend AGIP lubricants.

Should be good to see them back though the teams they are rumoured to be with arent absolutely top, then again we cant expect them to send Ferrari F1 personel over

Ross- I think one would be better off describing BMW colours as 'Bavarian': white and blue (although not neccessarily light blue). As for Maser racing colour, shouldn't it be red? I was always under impression (dunno where from) that it was usu. a bit darker than 'Ferrari' red, like Alfa's.

The BMW's at Le Mans and in the ALMS were solid white. Sometimes they had some graphical signage in chrome, some pin striping, and Dell and Beck's logos in various years. I dont remember them ever being blue. Though maybe the 98 cars were.

Ross- I can't find a pic, but I distinctly remember them having (within last few years) light blue diamonds across the hood, fading into red ones (I guess light blue come from Bavarian coat of arms, and red was added because of Motorsport division logo), and am quite certain thet they had only light blue ones before that. alack, I cannot remember which series, but IIRC that was 'factory' team of M3s.

Aren't there like pre-war national racing colors that the manufacturers very often follow?

England: Green
Germany: Silver or White
Italy: Red
France: Blue
USA: blue/white?
Belgium: yellow

Since maserati is italian, I would expect to see them in red. Probably a darker richer red than we see on the ferraris.

Wolf I see what you mean. However I was referring to the 'big' efforts. Not the works M3s but the works prototypes and the like. They were white white white.

What the hell kind of maserati is that?

Maseratis perhaps most famous car ever, the indy-winning 8CL was/is blue. I am not sure of the year, 1940?
But that, of course is not important to people not interested in historical motorsport, i.e possible purchaser of new Maseratis.

Red will win in the end (as colour choice).

The year is (partly) right, the colour and type wrong! The famous Boyle Maser 8CTF that won in '39 AND '40 was maroon, more red than blue!

You're probably thinking of the ex-Schell car, which is painted a very fetching dark blue and still goes like stink! It's produced some spectacular runs at Goodwood these past two years ...

All this fuss about Maserati colours - to be truly accurate the colour would be immaterial as whatever it might have been when it left the spray shop it was rapidly obscured by the oil leaks.

RIGHT!
A bit embarrasing, sorry, I know that I have an article about the blue ex-Schell somewhere.
