Darren the link only makes note of the following:

There were THREE different formulas represented in the
race:

1. Formula 1

Alan Jones - Williams FW07 Cosworth V-8
Bruno Giacomelli - Alfa Romeo 179 V-12

2. Formula 5000 (21 in all)

3. Formula Pacific/Mondial (3 in all)

Who are the other 24 drivers and cars ?

The race was won by Alan Jones

Pironi drove Peter Middleton's car...

McCormack's car never turned up due to that road accident.

Note the date was 16.11, not 17.11

Grid was:
Jones, 36.1
Giacomelli 36.3
Costanzo 37.9
Wright 38.8
Davison 39.7
Butcher 40.0
Talbot 40.0
Pironi 40.2
Bowe 40.5
McEwin 40.8 (note spelling)
Edwards 41.1
Smith 41.4
Tighe 41.6
Slako 42.0
Adams 42.0 (how did he do that?)
Singleton 42.2
Trengove 42.3
Williamson 42.6
Hanger 43.5
Cooper (no time)

Hanger didn't start... retirements:

Smith 1 lap
Singleton 6 laps
Slako 17 laps
Williamson 27 laps
McEwin 33 laps
Adams 60 laps
Davison 68 laps
Wright 70 laps

I have looked at Darren's page at the track data:
http://www.silhouet....cks/calder.html

Now inwhich track config. was used:

Full race track at 2.620 miles (4.416 km)
long road course at 1.417 miles (2.280km)
short road course at 1.000 mile (1.609 km)
of course it will not be the 1.140 mile config. (1.834 km)

That variant of the Calder layout was exactly a mile... or so it is said...

Ago never made it, not at all.

The retirements are listed, finishers were:
(haven't I done this on the 'Australian Grand Prix in former times thread'?)

1. Jones 1h 00:16.4
2. Giacomelli 94 laps
3. Pironi 91 laps
4. Costanzo 90 laps
5. Talbot 87 laps
6. Butcher 85 laps
7. Cooper 85 laps
8. Trengove 84 laps
9. Edwards 84 laps
10. Tighe 83 laps
11. Bowe 79 laps

Fastest Lap: Jones, 36.9 (157kmh) Race average: 152.2kmh

I will have to go through the photos that I took at the meeting and scan some, it was the first time that I had taken a camera to a race meeting and I shot off about 6 rolls of film!
I was 17 and my brother and I drove down from near Sydney to watch the race in his ex Highway Patrol Valiant Charger during a petrol strike!

I have just been thru the photos and I have found about half of them (ex wife syndrome) just some snaps in the pits, half a dozen of the Alfa, one of the Williams, one of Alfie's Lola and a couple of sports sedans (and some bad photos of girls in shorts!) I don't know what happened to all the Elfin MR9 photos that I took and the rest of the Lolas (blame ex wife)
Just my first attempts of motor racing photos with a 30 year old Zeiss Ikon camera.
Now all I have to do is scan them and con someone into putting them up on the net!

Catalina

I'll put them on the 'net for you. I'm particularly interested in the picture of Alfie's Lola (and any other F5000 pictures from Aus).

You can send them to allen@oldracingcars.com.

Good man Rainer.

I'll post Catalina's pictures when I get home but I left my PC upgrading itself to Windows XP so who knows what I'll come home to. It's probably a sandwich maker by now.

Excellent spoof. That's pretty much what my sandwich maker is now doing.

Actually, everything works except the email package which means I can't get at those photos. I'll have to reinstall Microsoft Office. Why did I ever start this?!

You're going to start wishing I'd never offered to host those pictures. Barry would probably have got them up and running days ago.

Sorry

Not sure... probably not, and it's definitely not the first Galloway, a much more interesting looking car than this one.

I'm more touched by the irony of the utility behind Butcher's T332... knowing what I now do about old Bill.
