I thought that as part of the package of technical changes that reinstated electronics last year, the FIA disallowed power steering? I’m asking because there is an article on Formula1.com this morning explaining Minardi’s new power steering system.

I was thinking the same thing. I also saw an explanation of Ferrari's steering wheel and there was a knob to turn off the power steering when it malfunctions.

I think it has something to do with the way it is done. It may not be done electronically but has to be done mechanically.

Something along those lines anyway. :)

HHF moved to Prost and complained abt the lack of power steering at Prost... and the new regulations were supposed to taken care of that too..

Electronically assisted power steering has been banned this year. Ferrari had this for the last couple of years, I'm not sure about anyone else.

From the FIA regulations
10.4.2
Power assisted steering systems may not be electronically controlled or electrically powered. No such system may carry out any function other than reduce the physical effort required to steer the car.
