Formula 1
It’s fast, it’s furious and it’s dramatic. "Formula 1" is the pinnacle in four-wheeled motor sport. Yet it’s more than just man and machine pitched into battle around the globe; it’s about personalities, multi-million dollar budgets and a script that wouldn’t disgrace a soap opera, enjoyed by millions the world over. From Sao Paulo to Monza and from Silverstone to Monte Carlo, it sets pulses racing and adrenaline pumping like no other sport. Also known as Grand Prix Racing, Formula 1 is the highest echelon of racing in the world. Once again the SPEED Channel provides LIVE F1 coverage in 2002.

Well, the program schedule points out the friday's practices... and they already have the ad... so, I think so.

Sweet! I was on speedvision.com this morning and noticed the same thing. I wonder how long before Fox sues the **** out of those guys who 'own' www.speedchannel' and have it directed to that evil yellow links page.

I thought it was only NASCAR that was scripted. Hmm...;)Originally posted by Reversa

KinetiK, I guess the courts have proven in recent years that large corporations will always get to swipe internet domains from squatters. Gone are the days when a little imagination and $50 could make you tens of thousands of dollars in instant profit. It's sad really. My advice to the current owners of "speedchannel.com" is to take the first offer that comes along ($100 and a hot meal). The second offer will be $0 and a summons...

Does anyone have any concrete information on if ABC is doing any races other than Indy? They used to carry Monaco years ago. Where did this information come from lgbalch. (excuse yourself)

I think this would still require a lawsuit since the person who owns the domain would still have a ownership contract with Network Solutions or whoever administrates it. But you're right, it would be an easy claim to assert since the current domain isn't being used for anything right now.Originally posted by Ross Stonefeld
Fox dont have to sue, they can claim the rights to the name. Just like if I were to become an A-Class celebrity i could bitchslap whoever has ross-stonefeld.com
The size of legal battle is dependent upon what a person is currently doing with the domain. If the owner of ross-stonefeld.com owned a huge chain of donut shop franchises called "Ross Stonefeld Donuts" then you may have a very good lawyer bitchslap fight on your hands...

Thursday 28th - Friday Practice - Tape - 11:00pm - 60 mins.
Repeat - Friday 1st - 3:00am (Thursday late night)
Friday 1st - Qualifying - Live - 9:00pm - 60 mins. (No pregame/no postgame)
Repeat - Questionable - open listing Saturday 2nd TBA - 60 mins. - 12:00pm Noon
Saturday 2nd - Race - Live - 9:30pm EST - 135 mins. (15 min prerace/postrace in remaining time available)
Race repeats (120 mins.) - Sunday 3rd - 1:30am (Saturday late night), Sunday 3rd - 8:30pm, Monday 4th - 1:00am (Sunday late night)
Seems like there'll be some coverage, afterall. The downside is that Qualifying will be shown only once (I think, so don't miss it), and the PreRace show will be only 15 minutes. Other than those two things, it's hard to knock the coverage. It's in the US; it's live; and it's not the last minute!
Now, if only it were Thursday, the 28th...

Ack. It looks as if they are cutting out much of the pre & post race stuff! I really enjoyed those bits. Oh well at least it is on and on live!

Oh well they probably need the time for more insights into the subtle and intricate world of NASCAR "sumbitch dun blew a tar or sumthin'!"
I wonder if there is a SpeedVision 'Trifecta' this year (F1, WRC & CART on the same weekend) ?

Who knows. . . bidbay was sued e-bay. They settled out of court yesterday I think. The really funny thing is bidbay bought their URL on e-bay.Originally posted by Xodiac
I doubt Fox would try and sue them, More likely they will just offer them a ****load of money if they really want it that badly.

2 hours and 15 mins of coverage compared to 2 and a half hours is all made up on the PreRace portion. The post race conferences and wrap-up should still be the same as it was last year. The races tend to run about an hour and a half, or so. We should be ok.

SpeedTV broadcasts the Australian GP live at the time you give, but the duration is not 2 hrs 15 minutes. (The TV Guide popup is in error.) There are 3 hours set aside for the broadcast: 1/2 hour pre-race show, and 2-1/2 hours for race and post-race.

Clearly they don't have a consistent Practice and rebroadcast policy, but at least qualifying and races will apparently all be live.

Maybe once we get back to Europe, they will be more consistent.

The beautiful thing about Speedvision was that I was GUARANTEED to see ALL F1 races LIVE.... So much for a good thing... This could be the slippery folks for F1 coverage in the US... ABC's coverage of the Indy F1 GP SUCKED!!!
F1 fans helped build SV... Now that they've landed NASCAR syonara F1...

Yes, and to be totally complete on this: Speed Channel is also on many Digital Cable services. However not in my area. Anyway the less expensive way to get it is via DIRECTV (Satellite) at this point in time. Not to mention the reception is a lot clearer.

Yes, on the Speed Channel F1 GP program itself they said ABC had Monaco, Monza, Canada and Indy for 2002.

I would rather have the in-car shots and updated graphics even if it means lousy announcers. I usually know what's going on more than the announcers do, they miss a lot of stuff us fans see.
Yes, and unfortunately Speed Channel picks up the generic feed from the country in which the race orignates. So although DIRECTV (Satellite) is digital you get a relatively poor picture .ie garbage in, garbage out. I guess if digital TV took on error correction capabilities like a CD-ROM has they might be able to improve on what is feed to them. The other problem with using this feed is that the announcers are slaved to respond to what they are seeing while you looking at it at the same time.
