To finish my '87 CART Statistical Tables, I need to know for wich teams the following drivers drove?

1 - At Indy the #2 car (G. Johncock) was entered by a team called American Racing. Any ideas about this team?
2 - At Indy the #17 was raced by Dominic Dobson (NQ).
3 - At Indy, #19 Dick Ferguson, sponsor: Los Angeles Drywall; at Michigan same driver, car, sponsor, but #22.
4 - At Indy, #35 Spike Gehlhausen, (NQ).
5 - At Indy, #76 Rocky Moran (NQ)
6 - At Indy, #59 Sam Swindell (March-Pontiac).
7 - At Indy #97, Rick Miaskiewicz.
8 - At Indy, #87 Steve Chassey.
9 - At Elkhart Lake #22, Wally Dallenbach Jr., sponsor: Menard's. Was it Team Menard?
10 - At Elkhart Lake and Mid-Ohio, #36 Graham McRae.
11 - At Mid-Ohio, #51 Davy Jones.
12 - At Long Beach and Elkhart Lake, #51 Didier Theys.

I know it's a big list but the answers will finish some months of research.
Any photos or other infos will be great

Thank you all

#1 .....Johncock came out of retirement to drive in place of injured Jim Crawford in the 2 car, entered by the "American Racing Series",which evolved into IndyLights, which explains why the entry was a March-Buick. The ARS was owned by Pat Patrick until a year or so ago.

#4 .....Car 35,'87 March-Cosworth.....JP Racing Team,entered by C.R.Possell.

#5.....Car 76,'86 March-Cosworth.....entered by Geo.N.Walther(bought the car from Morales).

#6.....Car 59,Buttera/Centerline/Machinists Union, entered by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.Went 202+,last car to get bumped.

#7......Car 97,Pizza Hut/WENS,entered by Sandy racing Inc. for Tom Bigelow.

My trusty Hungness yearbook has the following info:

2 - entered by American Racing Series for previous year's champ Fabrizio Barbazza (driving for Frank Arciero). Arciero was meant to enter Randy Lanier, but he fled the country, tried to get Jeff McPherson or Eddie Cheever but both signed for other teams (Galles and Arrows) so he promoted Barbazza from ARS to Indycar. So Jim Crawford took the drive, but was badly injured in a crash and Gordy took the drive. Barbazza was meant to drive as part of the prize for winning the ARS the previous year (for Arciero!). The car was entered by Pat Patrick, ARS chairman, so guess how Johncock got it!

17 - Intersport Racing

19 - Elmer Fields (California car dealer)

35 - C R Possell (don't think it ran)

76 - George Walther (77 had already been taken by Pace Electronics for the full season. Why did Walther use 77 and 33?)

59 - Machinists Union (they used this number a lot, along with 55)

97 - Sandy Racing Inc (Tom Bigelow's sprint entrant; Bigelow didn't have the bucks, Miaskiewicz paid $50,000 for the chance to DNQ)

87 - Lydia Laughrey (a 'local medical supplies distributor' but Huey Absalom was chief mech so it was quite serious and they made the race).

Didier Theys at Long Beach raced for Russell Newman Teamworks, so I assume they had the other no. 51s

I find it hard to believe that a no. 22 could be anything other than Dick Simon

(I was typing this when Gerr beat me to it!!!)

Someday I think I have to create a proper database about USAC/CART too...

2 - At Indy the #17 was raced by Dominic Dobson (NQ).

That was an Intersport entered car, sponsored by Jim Ward Racing (?!), and - I have found a picture...

9 - At Elkhart Lake #22, Wally Dallenbach Jr., sponsor: Menard's. Was it Team Menard?

Menard's Lumber of course was Team Menard. I think Menard started their career as Cashway Lumber in 1980.

Brickyard, is your database of results on a website, or is it just a personal compilation. I've always wondered where I could find proper results listings of CART. We've had the Guinness Guide for F1 but nothing similar (as far as I know) for CART.

Go to http://www.motorsport.com, and then to 'Statistics'. You'll find all CART results their (USAC, IRL, etc.) in Adobe Acrobat (*.pdf) format. Great data source!

Speed Demon,

I don't have my statistics in any webside, just on paper and on my computer.

The reason for my statistics seems to be more detailed, is that I dont trust in just one source.
motorsport.com have very good tables, and is one of my favorite sources, but I have others.
I've found some errors on that database, that I'm trying to correct.
Since 1999 I'm one of Eurosport's CART commentators for Portugal, and I have access to the CART Media Guides, and other official papers. I have a few books on the subject (I once had more, but I've lost them in a flood), and of course I count with the colaboration of you all in the TNF.

My main project for 2002 is to put all I have in a great database wich later will be used to write a book (A sort of directory with all the teams, drivers and cars that raced in the CART series). And for this, all the statistics have to be accurate.

 But thak you for your preference and help

Wow, I'm getting mad - they've stolen the livery of the '86 Benetton - one of my all time favourites.

Anyway - even as a fake it looks cool...

Well I for one can't wait for the book. Consider it ordered already!
