The Trieste-Opicina hillclimb, won by Tazio Nuvolari in the early 1930s. I've had an enquiry about this event, and I don't have much information on this. I'm looking for results, stories, track map etc etc. Not much really......... Can anyone help?

The Trieste-Opicina event near Triest, Italy was held for the first time in 1911. Otto Hironymus in a Laurin & Klement racing car went up the 7.400 km climb in 6m07.4s.

Emilio Richetti (Bugatti 2.0 racing car) won in 1926 on a 9.500 km climb in 7m50.0s.

1927, on a 9.500 km climb, Ettore Franchetti (Diatto 2600 racer) won in 7m29.0s.

1928, the fourth race on a 9.500 km climb, was won by Ermenegildo Strazza (Lancia Lambda touring car) in 7m50.4s.

1929, Achille Varzi (1750 SS Alfa Romeo) won on a 13.500 km long climb in 9m43.6s.

1930, Nuvolari (Alfa Romeo P2 GP car) again on a 9.500 km climb, went up in 5m59.4s, breaking the 1927 record. This had been his first race with the Scuderia Ferrari. But he had driven the P2 Alfa before for Alfa Corse, when he won the Royal Rome Grand Prix.

Amazing. I never knew about any actual hillclimb there but I know the road and it certainly can make a good hillclimb course.

Date of the 1930 edition: my sources also mentioned 15 June and won by Tazio Nuvolari. Two weeks later Tazio won another Mountainclimb race at Cuneo - Maddalena (66.5 km, second round of the new European Mountain championship) with the same Alfa Romeo P2.

Thanks everyone. Does anyone have a map, or can anyone tell me the road number and the start and finish points so I can dig out a road map?
