Atlas Voting Championship 2002: Australia

Posted 03 March 2002 - 15:09
------------------------------------------
Remember to consider the whole weekend, not just the race.
------------------------------------------
Step 1 - GP takes place & voting opens
Step 2 - Everybody votes for the three drivers they genuinely think did well in the GP. One top driver and two running up. If I feel you are simply voting for the fav driver each time I'll put you on the blacklist for a while. (I won't be voting myself, to make it fairer) Also not arguing over somebody elses votes or again on the blacklist you go. Posts should be along the lines of:
...Top Drive: Driver X - The one guy who impressed you most over the GP Weekend
...Runner Ups : Driver Y, Driver Z - The next two guys who impressed you.
Make it clear which Schumacher you mean, and which driver is Top Drive. Don't use the abbreviation MS without further clarification, as it could mean both Michael Schumacher and Mika Salo.
Step 3- Voting will close in about a week
Step 4 - I'll add up the total number of votes. 2 pts for a top vote and 1 for a runner-up vote. This will produce a 'race result'. Should drivers have the same voting score then I will split them by who has had the most Top Votes. If that fails then simply in race result order.
Step 5 - The drivers will then be awarded championship points on a 10-6-4-3-2-1 system.
---------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------
Rate the race
------------------------------------------
Please rate the race from 0-10, using the following guide.
Quality of race
This should be a reflection of how good the race was, not how much you liked the results. Please don't give it a one or two just because driver X failed to win the championship. Think about how much it had your pulse racing and you guessing at what the end result was going to be. Use the guide below to help, and think carefully. Try to compare it not just to the last few races, but all the grand prix you've ever watched. Votes of 9 and 10 should be quite rare.
10 The best race I've ever seen
9 Contender for the best race of the last few seasons
8 Contender for the best race of the season
7 Brilliant race, I was on the edge of my seat for a lot of the race
6 Better than average, more than a few on the edge the seat moments
5 An average race, nothing spectacular but worth watching
4 Below average, too few exciting moments
3 Well, there was one or two moments of interest
2 That was completely predictable
1 I struggled to watch it all the way through
0 I slept through most of it
Satisfaction with the results
Please also rate the race in terms of how satisfied you are with the results. This one
should be based on if driver X wins the championship or not! Also factors such controversy
over DQ's that sour the event should be considered.
10 All the right results, and done with style
9 All the right results, if not in the best manner
8 Mostly the right results
7 Mostly the right results with a bit of luck
6 Some of drivers/teams I liked did well
5 Neither happy nor sad with the results
4 My likes didn't quite manage to do well
3 My likes did quite badly
2 My likes did quite badly and my dislikes did good
1 All the wrong drivers/teams did very well but I'll give them credit for doing it well
0 All the wrong drivers/teams did very well and the right ones did badly
Note: people who are on the Voting Championship blacklist can still participate in Rate the race.

rate: 4, the only bits of interest (caught by the world feed) where the start, JPM&MS and Webber&Salo
results: 6. Bar MS in first, it had an interesting 2nd to 5th with Minardi getting 2pts!

Mika Salo - did a good job all weekend
Mark Webber - great start to his F1 career
Quality of race: 3 - SC was probably the right decision but the race would've been more interesting with more cars running.
Satisfaction with the results: 9 - both Finns got points.

He was first in every session, except qualifying, and had the second fastest lap. Total and utter domination by MS who left everyone else stalled on the grid.
2. Mark Webber
Put his Minardi in 18th ahead of both Jaguars is impressive, but to finish 5th in your Minardi is heroic. Fantastic drive by the Aussie.
3. Eddie Irvine
Ok he got very lucky, but he still dragged that Jaguar up to 4th somehow. Also beat De La Rosa quite handsomely over the weekend.

Michael Schumacher, class act.
RUps:
Webber, heroic.
Salo, determined.
Race quality: 7
satisfaction:
for me, it's the race itself that matters, not if favourite driver x finishes in front - though it must be said that I liked the result of Team Walkinshaw
But on principle, the score must be the same as the race quality score: a 7.

Montoya because of the way he overtook and defended against Michael, also he handled the difficult Michelins better than anyone.
Coulthard because of his qualifying effort and fast pace at the beginning of the race. Gets a minus for the way he failed to overcome his gear selection problems.
Schumacher because of his dominance throughout the weekend. Minus because of his passive driving at the beginning of the race, safe but too passive considering the car he had at his disposal.

Runner ups : 1. F. Massa. He did well on Friday and Saturday and was suspected to be the first driver to cause accident but he didn't. 2. M. Webber. He did well on Sunday fought briliantly with M. Salo.

Despite the fact that he was so far behind, great performance.
Good Cooks: M. Schumacher / J.P. Montoya
Got through the difficulties at the start and did everything they needed to (or could do in JPM's case).
Race: 6
Fascinating and excited until MS got past JPM, thereafter predictable and boring. Livened up towards the end with Webber/Salo, but that does not make up the preceeding 30 laps.

Runners Up - JPM - Added badly needed excitement to the race. A bit sloppy, but he was clean for once.
Mark Webber - Didn't wilt after botched pit stop or under pressure from the veteran Salo.
Quality - 8 - Passing good. Empty track bad.
Satisfaction with results - 8 - Many good drivers missing, pleasing result for Michael Schumacher and the underdog teams.
