Surprisingly "On track" did not publish a final full championship points table for 1983 but NSSN did do the Top Twenty and Mike Andretti finished 18th.

Thanks Mark,

Do you have some photos of Atlantics cars and drivers from that year (1983) ?
If so, hope you will post some on your website ...

Anyone who got results and point standings from 1984 to 1990? I'm especially looking for the later years.

I have found this thread interesting - I own the Tui BH3 that Roos used to win the 1973 VW Gold Cup Championship while driving for Fred Opert. Photos of the car can be seen at:

http://community.web...142213135YINRGc

I have been restoring the car although unfortunately I am probably going to have to sell. Does anyone have photos of Roos in this car?

Thanks,
Mike,
Austin Tx.

Anyone have an entry list for the 1982 Super Vee race at Detroit, run with F1?
Trying to ID two cars and drivers not listed in the race results I have. Both must have been non-starters.

Don't have a Detroit programme but do have a few others from that season
Several of these have 32 as J.L. Brown with a ProtoFab Riley
Is 34 an Autoresearch? Possibly Stan Fox? [Or given the height of the driver, an outing for Atlantic driver Chris Kneifel]

Can I ask if anyone has a list of results of any Super Vee races in the US in 1970. The Series/Championship didn't start till 1971 but Bill Scott had his Royale RP9 in 1970 and I do believe he raced it then. I am particularly interested in this car. This may have been as a class in a multiclass race or as a Formula Vee 1600 as the class was originally entitled. There is a photo of the car in the Royale book "Nowhere To Hide" captioned as taken in 1970. Any info greatly received. Thanks. Apologies to Darren Galpin who I have already pm'ed for this.

Super Vee was inaugurated as an official SCCA class beginning in 1970, and the first race should've been Apr 12 at Summit Point, WV, the "Washington (DC) Region of the SCCA Summit Point Spring Nationals", but it was apparently cancelled - I have found a comment from May 1970 saying that no Super Vee had yet appeared on any track!

I have another event listed for June 21, 11.30 am, a 60-mile multi-formula race (A, B, C, F, Super Vee) at the "Road America June Sprints" in Elkhart Lake (WI), but "there were no entries in Super Vee". July 5, Riverside International Raceway in Edgemont (CA) had another Formula A/B/C/Super Vee race of 19 laps, but no results from the class. Another race listed for Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma (CA), the "Sonoma Summer Sport National Champions Sports Car Races" on July 11, but only the FFord overall winner listed in the combined FF/SV race... :(

The first actual sign of life for Super Vee that I can find is a July 26 event at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Mansfield (OH) [shouldn't that read Lexington ], where "Jim Lombard of Columbus, Ohio, set a 1'49.8" lap standard as the first and only competitor in the new Super Vee class".

Page 58 of this PDF link there's a pic of Michael Andretti in 1981 in the Riverside Super Vee race

Can someone give me details of Mike's race in Long Beach 1983, he was the winner but how did he qualify, who was the owner, what number was his and which car did he race ?

Also would like to learn more about Jeff Andretti's race in Vegas 1984

Wasn't there some sort of a super vee world final too?
I seem to remember that I once read about Daytona as the circuit for such a final. I just do not know where I read that.

Always wondered what happened to Mika Arpiainen who won the only Super Vee race I recall seeing, winning in a Veemax at the Nurburgring on 1st August 1976.

Driver Database lists him as the 1504th most popular driver on their site.

DD shows he was active in 1974 for two races and then Mika appears in 1976 with 6 wins, 6 podiums and four fastest laps from ten races !

His total 50 % winning average seems to have been completely overlooked by talent scouts as he appears never to have raced again, does any one know what happened to him, surely the talent suggested by those statistics did not go completely to waste ?

Throwing some one with a 50 % win rate under the bus for a single unclassified run in an end of season Formula 2 race, VIII Preis von Baden-Württemberg und Hessen 1976, seems a tad harsh, surely must be more to it than that ?

If you think that's bad, try and explain the descent into obscurity of Peter Kuhn, who won the 1980 US championship and then, nothing...
I think he did one Atlantic race with a two year old rent-a-car

I agree that there was probably more to it than the ATS Lola T450, poor though it was. I suspect that in Arpianen's case the people who ran F2 teams, let alone F1, didn't take European FSV too seriously, certainly in comparison to F3, and Rosberg aside, they were generally proved right. Also at that time there were several Finns, beside Arpianen, who'd emerged from FSV and would have been competitors for most of the decent national sponsorship, Rosberg, of course, but also Mikko Kozarowitzky, who Marlboro thought a lot of.

I suppose winning alone does not necessarily attract the necessary sponsorship to progress, I guess that is why drivers all have PR people and what not as soon as they leave their push chairs these days :-)

Peter Kuhn made three starts in 1984 in CART with a year old March for the back marker McCray Team. Nothing came of it. He also did some racing around that time in IMSA Camel GT. But you are right, Chris, in that winning the '80 FSV title was the highlight of his driving career.

I don't know where that 50 % win rate comes from, but Arpiainen was active in FSV from 1971 to '76 minimum, and participated in more than 50 races. He won two in 1972 and one in 1973, and was generally running at the front, but he hardly set the world afire. Granted, his 1976 record was outstanding, with nine pole positions, ten wins and one second in fourteen races, but he also crashed twice. Add to that the fact that Rosberg, for example, had just stopped racing FSV after winning twelve races in just two years - he'd started later, got out earlier and still won as many races. And who did Arpiainen beat anyway, Peter Scharmann, Dieter Engel and Kenneth Persson - whatever became of them?! I'd also guess that he was probably already advanced in years, anyone know how old he was?

He was 28 when he won the 1976 FSV title. I loved his smooth style in the superbly prepared Veemax MK VIII, watching him at Zandvoort and Zolder. Mika had only a couple of low profile runs in F2, he didn't have the budget to have a proper go. Actually he got stuck too long in FSV, maybe he wasn't interested to make a move elsewhere.

You mean something like (translated literally from the website set up by Dirk De Ryke):-  "Celi AC 13: The last Celi . Design JM Sonkes; This type was controlled(driven by) by Bernard de Saint-Hubert, Baudouin of Rest and Olivier de Croy .
In 1977 Kennerth Persson drove several races with this car. He earned a third place them(n) at the Nurburgring ."

Interesting style developments of the three cars over two years. They almost look nothing alike!

I have loved Super Vee since it launched, and still have many friends who raced Super Vee here in the States... so I hope this thread gets some traction!

Some time after M. Celi ceased his business, around 1983-4, I met him & was shown around his abandoned workshop in Brussels. It was a treasure trove of everything such as complete monocoques, spare parts, bodywork & all the paraphernalia for producing FVees & SuperVees. He even had his own hand made engine dyno.

The workshop was on the upper floor of a general repair garage & was by no means obvious. I'd been using some space there for about a year before I knew about it!

I had a brief chat with him & remember him talking about a (2 litre?) SuperVee engine he was enthused about but cannot remember any details, I'm afraid. I considered buying the engines & some of the equipment for a sports car project but as with most thing in racing, it never materialized.

thank you for reporting the website. I knew this wonderfull Website already but unfortunately the Information about the Celi AC 13 SuperVee is Little, There is only one contemporary Picture. I am looking for more Information, Pictures, results about this car. Do you have results from the car driven bei Kenneth? I know that Kenneth drove his Celi in the race 07/08.05.1977 ADAC Super-Sport Rennen Kassel Calden. Pictures from this race would be great.

Erle do you have any results from the Celi AC 13?

DogEarred

island

I am afraid that my knowledge of Aldo Celi's cars and their results are non-existant. All I did was drive one. Have a look at http://formel-vau.eu  and try to get into contact with one of the members of this group, Martin Bourgondiën who has rebuilt a Celi SuperVee (marque number, I know not), may well have researched this topic further and could help you.

Sorry SVF, no photos but I do remember it was the air cooled SVee engine we were talking about. He was claiming good horsepower on the dyno & I was interested in a possible lightweight 2 litre sportscar.

I've no idea what happened to all the stuff in his workshop. It's now a furniture store.

I do not know how to get this photo, because I am not on Facebook.

Thank you very much.
